Re: What are you playing?

Yes. The game isn't a story. It's _a game_. Next, you'll be complaining that riflemen in civilisation aren't ranged and archers are ranged. Meld was introduced to solve a problem which both you and I admitted we couldn't solve: Giving players an incentive to being _agressive_ and not slow-going. Say...

Re: What are you playing?

xcom: Enemy Within. I like everything so far about this expansion. There's a higher risk-higher reward type deal going on with getting all of the new stuff. I very much approve of where they've taken the game. We'll see if power creep makes the later stages more boring, but I bet that there's a bunc...

Re: What are you playing?

Well, I enjoy singleplayer and all, but some of my best gamer stories are from playing DayZ multiplayer or from doing tabletop roleplaying games. Right now, it's just where I get my fix, but arguably, this has much more to do with who I play with than the game type itself. I play a lot of coop and I...

Re: What are you playing?

I'm sure you've done a good job with your modification; the fact is, the game engine and maps have just kindof run their course for me. Even TNM, with brand new maps and a completely different take on how a Deus Ex game might look, had me taking ages before I finally played it. The fact is, I predom...

Re: What are you playing?

Maybe I should, but I probably won't :-) I recently got the new DX in the directors cut version. I'm looking forward to playing that... But really, the old one again?...eh. Even with a massive mod, I don't think so. Too much stuff I remember how to do. It's like I have a walkthrough on the inside of...

Re: What are you playing?

It's less like prejudice, more like stupidity :D See, I had tried it 5 or so times. The fact is, I really honestly did not realize that the maps, AI and patterns overall form a game which can methodically be beat. Some of the maps are pretty much a death sentence for most of your squad if you encoun...

Re: What are you playing?

So, I watched that XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Ironman Impossible video series you linked Jaedar. It's actually a really clever way of playing. I understand why some might find it tedious, but it manages to find depth in the gameplay where I thought there wasn't any. I'll be honest: I beat Ironman Classic...

Re: What are you playing?

Honestly... I feel like almost the entire team knew they were making the game version of 'planet terror', but somewhere inside that team was a few designers who thought they were making a serious almost artistic game. So it's not awesome all the way through, it's just....weird. The bugs in the game ...

Re: Question about inflation/deflation and debts

@ DDL Curious. I didn't realize it was common to market loans that way; I think that is probably illegal in Denmark, as I presume the 'interest' is defined to be nominal dues per bank year here, and it is illegal to use it in another manner. @ Myself I actually think there is a further quirk to it. ...

Re: What are you playing?

@Bobby: Dead Island is kindof a horribad game, but it is the most f'in fun in coop. I'm playing the sequel with a team of 4, and we still have an amazing time with it. It's so god damned silly, but you get so many good times out of it. @Hassat: Easy is a good way to play xcom. Personally, normal -> ...

Re: Question about inflation/deflation and debts

What you describe are effectively two different mechanisms. One is a debt, which is essentially a future obligation that is negotiated nominally _right now_. The other is goods and services which you can expect you will need in the future, but which you do not need right now, therefore you typically...

Re: Science question.

@DDL I want to know more about gyros. I know that they work very counter-intuitively, and that the angular rotation means that when you try to twist them one way or another, the force you apply to the gyro ends up acting in another direction. So when you have two gyros rotating in opposite direction...

Re: Science question.

oh, and phas: http://i.imgur.com/drK05x6.jpg This is a gravity spin. Any capsule with significant thrust can enter into a gravity spin. It's a bit like a pendulum - think of it like having a weight in a piece of string and swinging it around - but the capsule can commit to a spin of arbitrary size. ...

Re: Science question.

http://imgur.com/2JTjnru,wyVDyZU#0 Ok, so. Imagine we have the capacity to generate a force field. Let's imagine it is an electromagnetic forcefield, for now, just to humor ourselves. We draw a square around a part of the field, and we put something within the field. That's the left drawing in the f...

You should call him rumpkin because that would be hillarious.

Will respond more in a bit when I've drawn some sketches.
