Re: GMDX v5 Release
Also, can I have the source of the "sim team/RPG team" claim? Sounds far-fetched to me as there is more to DX and game development than just RPG and Sim design, though granted those are probably it's strongest aspects aside from the story. I remember hearing in a Spector lecture that there was two ...

Re: GMDX v5 Release
I disagree. Deus Ex in regards to it's gameplay systems is an RPG. The sword becomes the ultimate melee weapon of death once you upgrade it, therefore actually making combat strength and low-tech skill worth a damn. Even if you do not upgrade it via low tech and CS it is still ridiculously useful, ...

Re: (troubleshooting) DX GOTY microstutter
Could be that your GPU clocks back to 2D mode? DX isn't a very demanding game, so I can imagine that after loading a map, it takes some time for the GPU to "recognise" that more power is needed, and then when you're in part of a map where the number of 3D objects rendered is very low, it might clock...

A team of unpaid people were able to make TNM Yeah in seven years! Yes, but you said yourself that if you would've had a clear idea of what you were going to do, you could've done it in 2. It was 7 years, but that was with a team of unpaid, untrained volunteers who for the first few years barely kn...

Re: Still Think Jock Is a Madman After the Chat at NY Bar...
That's something I've been wondering about - why are there no indie devs making games like DX? Cut the VA, don't make the graphics too fancy, but focus on systems and large maps. A team of unpaid people were able to make TNM, surely using a modern engine, a team of more or less professional devs cou...

Re: GMDX: Gameplay Mod. (HDTP Compatible)
The only one I'd consider changing is the bot rockets/cloaking as it contradicts with lore, yet these third world/commercial grade bots appear in Area51, most notably as the defenders of Helios of all things, so the devs contradicted their own details. (yes that's beside the point, I know). The Tra...

Re: GMDX: Gameplay Mod. (HDTP Compatible)
I'm actually pretty excited for almost all your changes, but there are a few small things which seem like deal breakers to me, because I care very much about immersion and the relatively understated style of technology in DX. My issues, based on the videos: 1. "Runners". Do I understand correctly th...

Re: GMDX: Gameplay Mod. (HDTP Compatible)
Fancy, does that mean I can choose which elements of GMDX to install? Because the videos have made me really want to try some of the changes but I'm not excited about all of them (some seem rather immersion-breaking).

Re: Do youtubers read off scripts? And if so, how?
Pleasantly surprised by the content, in both its focus on common people and in general quality. One thing though: when you talk about small village societies where people do not repay debts in full, I think you should be more specific about which societies those were and at what time, as this was no...

Re: Science question.
I think even in classical mechanics, you can't distinguish between moving toward something at a constant speed and the that moving toward you. You can only measure acceleration, speed is relative to other objects and there is no fixed "centre" of the universe. Relativity was once explained to me usi...

Re: Can someone explain this article about bonds to me?
It is an excellent explanation. As to the original article, I would like to point out that there are quite a few people who feel that "inflation = theft", as the article also seems to imply. Especially hardline libertarians think so. However, the price of bonds in the current period depends on expec...

Re: Question about inflation/deflation and debts
This is why economists love to use the somewhat artificial distinction between the short and the long run. In the long run, if the total amount of money doubles, then prices double and incomes double. That is, there is no net effect in the long run (this is called the "neutrality of money"). Money i...
