Re: GMDXv9.0 Announced

What made N64 shooters so great is that they didn't work by the limitations of their time. This is also why they are so crappy. When played on the N64 they were bogged down by a crappy controller with one analog stick, shitty resolution, shitty draw distance, and just shitty hardware caps on everyth...

Re: GMDXv9.0 Announced

This is a really good idea - not because it enables controllers, because I still think they are incompatible with Deus Ex; but because it enables 60% and lower keyboards, which have become more common. Quick aug select with a wheel can work like in Advent Rising - essentially slowing down time, and ...

Re: GMDXv9.0 Announced

"\ Z X C" is a common, but not the standard, keyboard arrangement. On my keyboard the backslash is above the enter key.
I propose the use of Z and X keys instead, for universality.
Speaking of which, detection of Dvorak, AZERTY and other common keyboards?

Re: GMDXv9.0 Announced

My personal keybinds: C = Crouch toggle Z = Toggle laser X = Toggle scope R = Reload F / RMB = Secondary weapon E / Middle Mouse Button = Interact Q = Change Ammo Maybe instead of caps lock for inventory, change it to tab? I hate pressing the caps lock key - I hate having the LEDs on my keyboard on....

Edit: GMDX site - There's a new banner now! Unfortunately in mobile view it reveals that it's just overlaid on top of the old one, because they both still appear.
Good job on merging the news and home pages!

Re: GMDXv9.0 Announced

The way I see it skills are a commodity as well - they aren't just means to get more items. If you're specializing in Heavy Weapons instead of Rifles just for the items you'll suffer for it - as your gameplay style doesn't enforce that. It matters mostly early on as skill points are more scarce then...

Re: GMDXv9.0 Announced

I agree with the random item argument - I've only considered it after playing some DND and rolling a history gave my character a bit more heart. It does take some pressure to make you enforce that history upon yourself, and so probably isn't a good thing for a singleplayer game with a short start-up...

Re: GMDXv9.0 Announced

Hmm. Well, history options demand substantial writing, and potentially conflict with the pre-defined backstory of JC. However, minor inventory differences based on what skills are chosen may be cool, although would not reward those that jump straight in the game without immediately assigning skill ...

Re: GMDXv9.0 Announced

Random ideas: Toggleable systems - such as stamina not recovering completely after swimming. An experience that is more customizable by the player is always a good thing, moreso when you have presets to select from if you are a player looking for simplicity. Start of the game inventory randomization...

Deus Ex Post-Mortem by Warren Spector

In the recent GDC, Warren Spector gave a lecture about how he came up and designed the one and only original Deus Ex. It's really interesting, and I think most of it can apply to modern games. It's an hour long but I think it's worth it. http://www.gdcvault.com/play/1024338/Classic-Game-Postmortem-D...

Re: GMDXv9.0 Announced

Website feedback: My former feedback applies especially in high-DPI devices (such as mobile phones). Most of the images (such as the skill icons and the gifs) are pushed to the bottom due to CSS basically breaking. Also the logo is displayed twice - it seems that in normal browsers we don't see it b...

Re: Minor things worth mentioning

It doesn't seem to do that? I only know C, but it seems like it initializes i without giving it a value - so i equals whatever value was in its memory address beforehand (junk value). If i is less than 9, it'll count to 9. otherwise, it'll terminate: If it's larger than 9, it'll never enter the loop...

Re: GMDXv9.0 Announced

Probably not - it also raises issues if you remove the nanokey itself, but I meant only about the keys it contains. I think it was done TNM, so it isn't impossible.

Re: GMDXv9.0 Announced

I'm totally behind that, but you have to consider the implementation. If you scatter the ammunition around the armory, it'll really make it feel like you're raiding a real-life armory. Stacks of ammo boxes, each kind in a different place. However, it also means JC actually carried all of that on his...

Re: GMDXv9.0 Announced

I support archived news posts - erasing history is never a good thing. And it also stands as a testament to how GMDX improves on Deus Ex and gives explanations for things that might look a bit out of the blue. Website feedback: It's weird that the site opens in the news section, and has a different ...
