One of the earliest patches (you use 1.0.4 or 1.0.4+ right?) adds the key if you follow the Llama path to the compound so you can enter and get the golden spork.

Even without HDTP support the 'unique' weapons keep their new unique skin, right?

Should definitely be fixed by 1.0.4 though. So if it only crashes faster with it... something's wrong. Though of course the 1.0.4 fix wont be applied if the module was loaded before, so if you install the patch and use the very same save, yes, it will still crash. Don't think 1.0.0 - 1.0.4 (or 1.0.4...

I just hope it gets released... so many work already done on it, it would be a shame if it never saw the light of day.

No, it's because Shifter modifies DX weapons and all weapons in TNM are TNM weapons. Overwriting the DX values with the damage and abilities the developers added here.
The only solution would be to apply the same changes shifter made to the TNM weapons, which is quite a task.

You can play Deus Ex with TNM, but you will notice small problems, like the original icons of your incoming messages being static, and certain TNM-weapons (like the PHAT-rifle) will just plain not work since DX NPC's don't got the correct code to make it work. Yeah, it's definitely struggling first time, then getting the hang the next. Which is fine by me. Heck I finished the Deus Ex demo Liberty Island 20 times or so before I got the final game. The first few times I started it I got massacred. Baldur's Gates still mutilate me too. But I'm loving it :). ...
