Re: The legacy of Deus Ex, 15 years later

I disagree, in terms of story telling, when was the last time you saw something really different? All that's really changed in the last, ???, 2000 years is that it got easier to write a story down. In other words, your argument is silly. Gameplay is what makes a game a game and not a movie or book t...

Re: The legacy of Deus Ex, 15 years later

Third, I dunno - how about the genre of pure narrative exploration disparagingly labelled "walking simulator" (Dear Esther)? How about MOBAs (invented years ago, sure, but didn't become a genre until HON and LOL)? How about vehicular sports (Rocket League)? How about voxel-based building games (Min...

Re: The legacy of Deus Ex, 15 years later

Please don't let OTP become like the RPG Codex or TTLG, a forum for people who have let their nostalgia turn into jadedness and overtake their love of new experiences. Heh, funny. I remember aroun thiafs release people on the codex would look down upon ttlg because the general (pre-release?) consen...

I... don't know what that means?

I assume its a dig at "Jaedar hates all games", but I don't really get the logical chain supposed to bring me there?

Re: The legacy of Deus Ex, 15 years later

I'm currently a huge fan of how The Witcher 3 handles it - you don't even get a choice at the end, you've already made all the choices throughout the whole game up until then, and what you get is the consequences of all those decision points. Really makes the ending feel like it ties the whole game...

Re: Deus Ex Advancement Mod v7 Release

You should read this post if you haven't already CyberP: http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/gmdx-deus-ex-advancement-mod.85250/page-28#post-4036919 The mod is almost PERFECT as it is, except for a couple of things, some minor stuff but also some questionable stuff. So here is a list of...

Re: The legacy of Deus Ex, 15 years later

I agree Deus ex does not need a remake. It still looks and plays well enough and works on modern hardware.

I doubt you could make equally large maps with modern graphics and have it fit on consoles too.

Re: Deus Ex Advancement Mod v7 Release

Possibly, but then we'd probably need a pistol equivalent too. Currently my favorite suggestion is from someone on moddb: rubber bullets make enemies flinch more often, and more likely to drop their weapon...he didn't actually suggest that exactly, some personal modifications there, but it is going...

Re: Deus Ex Advancement Mod v7 Release

Hmm, on the topic of rifle perk:

Rifles weapons are sniper, assault, and the two shotguns iirc.

Perhaps a perk like "steady hands: Lose 50% less accuracy from movement when using rifle type weapons"

Re: Deus Ex Advancement Mod v7 Release

Why does the first rifle perk boost pistols? I'm assuming misprint.

Re: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

The only real thing I saw was more of the same. Including the completely broken xp system that seemingly hasn't changed at all.

And I guess energy comes in one bar now?

Starting to doubt I'll even try this one.

Re: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Sure but everything you mention (motion blur, bloom, HDR, DOF) is post-processing effects. Those can be turned off, and they're not the reason you can't have giant levels. All those effects are equally as demanding in tiny levels as they are in giant levels, because they're handled after the entire...
