Re: Off Topic and .......well off topic

I thought this was a rather interesting (if not a bit disturbing) documentary: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 7935788405

Re: Hacking the DX SDK?

Try torrenting the GOTY edition and installing that. There shouldn't be any moral issues because you already own the game. :P If the problem isn't a damaged disc or something but a problem with your actual computer then that should be solvable if you post more info. EDIT: You might be able to instal...

Re: Giant Gobs of Crazy and the EFCA

Yes because communists are so evil, they would NEVER EVER sell food to the rest of the world... You're right on the cold part though. But communists have a really, really, REALLY bad history with running farms properly. :P Well DDL you'd get my vote  Since we are in hypothetical land, what a...

Re: Giant Gobs of Crazy and the EFCA

A little over half of India's land area is arable: http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/agr_ara_lan_of_lan_are-agriculture-arable-land-of-area Considering the size of india that is a truly huge area of potential farm land. :P Covering half of India in crops is admittedly absurd, there would be other co...

Re: Giant Gobs of Crazy and the EFCA

The trick with 'safe GMO' is in making sure the traits conferring non-standard chemical dependency REMAIN LINKED to all the other traits you're worried about infusing the non-GMO genepool with, which given they're separate genes, and that plants are notoriously promiscuous, what with all their craz...

Re: Giant Gobs of Crazy and the EFCA

Or this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingroup_bias And now I have to run off, work is calling :(. I agree with you and christhecynic that this is probably better then Out-group homogeneity bias. What originally enamored me about Out-group homogeneity bias was this line: "individuals see members of ...

Re: Giant Gobs of Crazy and the EFCA

I mean that they don't really have anything to do with darwin... Do I really need to clarify this further? Possibly. I can be kind of dumb sometimes. :P (for the record, when I think darwinism I think of the philosophical one) Darwin didn't invent Philosophical Darwinism. But evolution is a big par...

Re: Giant Gobs of Crazy and the EFCA

Well damn this thread has moved along. This is in response to Jcelios's list of lunitics on the left. Some of the areas listed (entire anti-corporate movements ... not to mention a general shrill paranoia about "big business" and "the man") can't really be classified as right or left. The bit about...

Re: Giant Gobs of Crazy and the EFCA

Biologists use Darwinism to refer to biological evolution and it's influence upon the natural world. noo, they just say evolution. Albeit it may not necessarily be common I do occasionally hear it used in this context by biologists. Both in lectures and informal conversation. This is probably an is...

And just because I love triple posting:
I think I found a good classification of the effect that was possibly observed this thread regarding the amount of crazy people on each side of the political spectrum.

Re: Giant Gobs of Crazy and the EFCA

Did you know that Charles Darwin invented atheism and caused the holocaust? did you know that Darwinism has nothing to do with darwin at all? Depends what you mean by Darwinism. Biologists use Darwinism to refer to biological evolution and it's influence upon the natural world. Philosophers use Dar...

Re: Giant Gobs of Crazy and the EFCA

There isn't as much "playing god" far-right type religious objection to GMO as you might think. I'm not sure why, it's just something I haven't observed very often. What there is however is a massive far-left environmentalist type anti-GMO sentiment. It's particularly strong and even very influentia...

Re: Giant Gobs of Crazy and the EFCA

I usually don't consider myself a very political person. I'm probably some strange combination of leaning liberal/libertarian (speaking of libertarians they have some "special" people also :P) But I do spend a lot of time around crazy people. So much that I've had to cut back due to my own degrading...

Re: Giant Gobs of Crazy and the EFCA

On the whole, you DO tend to get more lunatics on the far-right end of the spectrum than you do on the far-left, though. I honestly don't know about that. The Right do tend to have the more traditional and aggressive (read: visible) crazy. But the left have: 9/11 "Truth", PETA and Animal Liberation...
