I always remember the famous one along the lines the of, "How many ____ does it take to change a light bulb?" jokes. Q: How many Frenchmen does it take to defend Paris? A: No one knows, it's never been tried. I just sometimes wonder why, given that the majority of the history of the 20th century ste...

Why do those French always talk so fast [?] They're used to shouting surrender chants really quickly. </British Patriotism> It's not that I'm defending the French, having been to Paris I'm not terribly positive on the French though the fact that every French person I've spoken to since agrees with ...

The understanding of how the first Americans came to the Americas is constantly evolving. For example the first Americans that we have evidence of are not the ones originally believed to be first (Clovis over the land bridge from Asia) but actually Europeans most likely using small boats to travel b...

I'm confused about something, just one little tiny thing, in this whole bit about the whiteboard. It's this: "Mentioning Page in relation to VersaLife is a spoiler." VersaLife is a publicly acknowledged division of Page Industries (as anyone who's actually played the game is well aware), Page is the...

I think its funny that people can criticize work and ideas only to offer no better alternative themselves. ... Well the JC model is something that has been overly criticized and yet we haven't even played with it yet. Whilst yes he did offer to help - its not like he said "here is what I think JC s...

An interesting thing is to, for a moment, throw aside all sanity and try to see it his way. After the Virginia Tech shooting Jack said: "This is not rocket science. When a kid who has never killed anyone in his life goes on a rampage and looks like the Terminator, he's a video gamer." And: "He might...

I can't think of any way to get the x out. Think about the relation between the two:

sinx = (e^(ix)-e^(-ix))/2i
cosx = (e^(ix)+e^(-ix))/2

How the hell do you get the x in one place?

I'm really not sure.

Maybe it's because I've just gotten my hands on the complete Tom Lehrer collection, maybe it's something else, but I feel the need to point out that you don't set pigeons on fire, you poison them. So if any means of pigeon disposal is added it should be peanuts coated with cyanide. Spring is here, a...

My experience with Macs has been that they're nice, very easy to use, almost inconceivably intuitive and nothing I have any desire to buy. I just don't see the point, I'll use one if that's the available computer, if someone gave me one I'd keep it, but nothing I have heard or experienced makes me w...

The new shots, especially the goo, look very good. - I *will* delete any further pointless posts. Then we shall see if the following is pointless, I don't think it is but it is concerned with forum etiquette rather than with the textures. So it could be seen as pointless wrt this thread. Or maybe et...

I direct you, Chris, to DDL's post. :P Have you ever seen the type of veneer they put over cathedrals at that point in history? I have. DDL's post is true, and there are many notable examples of that kind of thing, but it is the wrong place and the wrong time for it to come out looking like that . ...

You thought Florence outshone Paris and Rome? I thought Florence was nice, but Paris was my favorite. To be honest if everything in Paris other than Notre Dame and the Louvre had disappeared for the duration of my trip I don't think I would have minded. I mean there were sights to see and things to...
