Trestkon does not pronounce it quite correctly no - the o, as I mentioned, is a bit off. However, your change would make it even more wrong :)

How wrong do you think it could be while remaining something that could reasonably be spelled Jonas? How much discussion can we have about the pronunciation of your name?

Why did English speakers of days gone by decide that it was completely crazy to have y mean ð but perfectly natural to have th mean ð thus changing the spelling of certain words and allowing pretentious businesses of the present day to use the old spelling as a way to say, "Look at us, we're old timey" ?

What other completely random questions can I ask?

everyone knows the rapper nas, and everyone wants to holla at him, so the easiest way to remember how to say jonas' name is to think of "yo-nas"

I try to pronounce it as "Yo-nis" or "Yo-nes", but with an accent. Some words do not sound right if you do not accompany it with an accent, like "comrade", so it is yo-nas/nes/nis/whatever, but with a Danish accent? Or is that incorrect? It just seems to require an accent to sound right...

I don't know much about it. I did know the letter J is relatively recent as voiced Y. Didn't know the character Y was used as the thorn either. Y, J, and th have a strangely mixed history.

Once upon a time there was no j, there was only i. The Romans used i as both a consonent and a vowel, depending largely on placement within the world. When it was not a vowel it was spoken like a non-vowel y. So iam was pronounced yam. (As near as we can tell, we can't actually ask the Romans after all.)

Eventually J was introduced for reasons that remain unknown to me. It seems entirely useless as J was used in all the same places and ways as I. Eventally new sounds were associated with J but not everyone agreed, and that is how we got where we are today.

hah! Finally got around to watching that interview. Trest, you look totally like a drunken frat boy caught in a sober moment. In a good way.

I have a strong desire to somehow arrange a booze up with as many OTP/HDTP members as possible now.

Potentially via interweb, I guess. Skype piss-ups: they can work!

It's really a shame half the OTP team is broke - I've saved up a good deal of cash, but I'm not keen to blow it all on flying everybody to Denmark. What we need is a rich benefactor - a sponsor who'll pay to get us all to GDC in San Fransisco or something. That'd be grand.

Too bad it's not a Half-Life mod or Valve would probably have invited us all to Seattle years ago.

A mass Denmark invasion would be fun.

Ok, it's not exactly like I'm strapped for cash, on balance (at least as compared to many modders :)), but yeah: flying peeps from stateside/iglooland is pricey.

Still, given at least Phas and Metche are like...an hour (tops) away from me, we're all doing horribly badly at this (with the sole exception of Jonas, who's devotion to mod-related travel is exceptional).

Would offer to go to London and meet up with you guys, but I tried that already, and it was only a partial success (certainly the most important part, but still). I think Canada is next on the schedule, but yeah, I think on average - it's not my fault most of us haven't met yet :P

Metche: Still not forgiven for going to Italy when I came to Manchester to meet her.
Phasmatis: Still not forgiven for talking me out of visiting his town when I was in London.
Trestkon: Still not forgiven for not swinging past Copenhagen on his great trip to Europe.

Shane... you're my last hope man. Don't let me down ;)

(I'm just kidding, you're all awesome. But you're also spineless underachievers.)

The pound is cheap though, I'm considering going to the UK in the near future. But really, Denmark, the UK ... doesn't really matter. I have to change currency either way and they're both about as far.

You eat... the language... for breakfast?

How is that even possible? Is that some clever euphemism for being really bad at a language?

Or perhaps you mean either danishes or Danes.
