TNM in the media

Post by Jonas »

I thought I'd make this here in the public forums so anybody can contribute if you find something. Trestkon just located this new article based on ModDB's preview:

http://news.gotgame.com/the-nameless-mo ... -ex/27005/

Hooray for vanity searches, I guess :P

And of course the original ModDB preview that this guy pilfered all his info from:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-nameless- ... meless-mod

Do chip in if you find any articles not on this site. Clearly anything we write ourselves on thenamelessmod.com or offtopicproductions.com doesn't count ;)

TNM was recently discussed in a massive 5 second feature on the Idle Thumbs March, 4, 2009 podcast. They basically just name drop us, so if you're reading this there's no reason to download it and flip all the way to the 79:30 marker, but 'tis cool, none the less! Thanks to Dave from Moddb for letting us know/informing Idle Thumbs of our existance :p

I think that the sentences, "Somewhere, in a dump dark spot, Warren Spector is tearing his hair and skin apart, crying inside, and out. "IS THIS *MY* FAN BASE!? IS THIS WHY I'VE DONE THIS, RELEASED THE SDK?!"." should somehow be made a part of your official release. You know, as one of the of little blurbs, of the type that you find on the back of a book:

"I've got nothing but good things to say about it. It worked its way into my dreams the night after my first taste of it. As with any good thing I wish there was more of it (why I can't just forget about DD and work as a bouncer in Sol's for the rest of my life?) but that would remain true no matter how much there was to do."
-Chris the Cynic

"Overall the world of TNM seems very consistent to me, which is, for a game of this size and such a long development time, a major achievement indeed. Finishing a mod of this epic proportions is simply legendary no matter if it sucks or not. TNM doesn't suck, it shines as the best mod I have ever had the honour to play."
-Fox

"Its funny, huge, good fun, well written. Little bit too much walking around but probably the best mod on DX by a long way."
-Daniel

"Personally, I feel that TNM on its own rivals the game it modifies. This is one of those rare mods that goes far beyond the definition of a 'mod'.. It's one of the best gaming experiences I've had in a long time. ^
_^"
-Jim

"The mod's giving me... that sense of wonder that I get from a new game that I'm gonna get engrossed in for a long time. The whole "Deus Ex, but not" thing, with the mod being based on familiar territory but so completely new... I honestly think it works out."
-JeredCain

"Somewhere, in a dump dark spot, Warren Spector is tearing his hair and skin apart, crying inside, and out. 'IS THIS *MY* FAN BASE!? IS THIS WHY I'VE DONE THIS, RELEASED THE SDK?!'."
-Some guy who never played TNM

Probably want to add a [sic] or two in there.

It's okay Jonas, they're Italian. I don't know how that justifies it, but, yeah...

We were mentioned in the last issue of the Danish magazine PC Player:
http://rooc.offtopicproductions.com/Blo ... Player.JPG

Rough translation:
The Nameless Mod
Released: Probably out now
Game: Deus Ex

Don't be fooled by the name: The Nameless Mod seems to be anything other than devoid of imagination. It's based on the classic and highly praised Deus Ex and is a so-called total conversion, offering a new story, new experiences, but with the same good atmosphere that Deus Ex provided.

The game's protagonist, Trestkon, is back after a couple of years as a retired agent, called upon to help a virtual community called Forum City. One of the moderators behind Forum City has vanished without a trace, and it's Trestkon's assignment to trace him down and solve the mystery behind the disappearing act - if that's what it is. The modification should feel much like the old Deus Ex, but polished up to better match present-day standards. According to the first previews, there's approximately 15 hours of game, a long non-linear campaign, and of course lots of consequences of your actions.

The Nameless Mod is at the time of writing not yet out, but when this issue of >pcplayer hits the street, the first version should have landed. Brush the dust off Deux Ex [sic], while you download from here:

Richard Cobbett is awesome beyond words (I say this not just because I know he is aware of the existence of this thread), and yes I have read that post. I am going to print it and hang it on my wall.

Man, The Narcissus Entity totally just wrote a blog entry about The Nameless Mod:

That seems superbly fitting on several levels.
