Music Playing Disorder - Looking At You

Post by Dark Reality »

I may have forgotten to mention in my review, but this deserves a topic of its own anyway. Having an actual song with rock instruments and vocals play over the credits made beating TNM that much more satisfying. And it got my wife's attention (she's real big on the hard rock/nu-metal) which is something Deus Ex really couldn't do. I found it in the music folder, and I've been playing it lately, it's actually a pretty cool song.

I can't find any information on this band on Google though. Are they just real small or something? Is someone from the TNM team part of the band? What's the deal with this song?

Every time I hear good music - either on the radio, or XM-Sirius at home (it's included with DirecTV), or in Rock Band - I put it in a folder and when I get enough, I compile a mix. I'd never thought of it like this until recently, but I'm chronicling the best music of the times, which I noticed when I realized the mixes from 2007 and 2008 weren't really holding a replay value, but the ones from 2006 are still good as ever. It's not guaranteed that the music in my mixes is brand-new, it's just what I happen to be playing a lot of around the time the album gets compiled. Anyway, this song's definitely going on my next mix, which I should be finishing up... whenever. I've got 16, maybe 17 songs for it, and I aim for 20. 20 songs or 80 minutes (minus total tracks minus one times two seconds) whichever comes first. I don't sell them (obviously) but I do post the track list on my blog, so anybody with the "appropriate tools" is free to re-create the mix if they so desire.

Sadly, Music Playing Disorder no longer exists, they broke up long ago. Leo was the lead guitarist and composer for the band, which is how the song came to be used in TNM :)

You can find the other three songs from their demo here:

Jonas is right. M.P.D. as it was when we recorded that song is dead.

But the singer is/will be ( I don't know when) releasing something under the Music Playing Disorder - M.P.D. name. He is alone in this one so I haven't listened to a single note. I'm pretty sure it will be something interesting though regardless of my non-involvement with his project.

The track Sus2 which appears in "BonusMaterial" was originally written for M.P.D. and was also recorded, though it was only a demo so it was inadequate for the game's ending. I re-recorded it during my album's tracking sessions and Jonas refused to sing on it so I had to go look for someone with a cool voice who would sing on it, that ultimately never happened so we used "Looking At You".

Unfortunately I have a crisp and virginal tenor, quite unsuited to badass hard rock. My voice is best for stuff like... Simon & Garfunkel, for example. I aced my oral Music exam in high school with an, if I do say so myself, quite excellent rendition of The Sound Of Silence ;)

I would have been fun though.

Maybe do one of those old Def Leppard choir 80's effects and sing over the orchestra at the end?

We'll have to wait until he decides to unleash his falsetto.
