I usually start with a light or rough sketch to lay out the proportions and then clean it up and refine it as I go. It's a lot of simply working it out on the fly, if that makes sense. :D

Oh and LOL @ shane.
Well that sucks, I was hoping for some extraordinary secret to get perfect proportions every time but it turns out you need talent.

*grumbles while drawing disproportionate people*

If you get time I would love a full character pic of my character. :D
What about Leonardo's Vetruvian Man ?

I know when working on fashion designs you use exaggerated proportions so instead of your body being 7 heads long it would be 9 or something along those lines. If you use twice as many you get some interesting exaggerated proportions that still convey the sense of balance.

... although that one isn't using strictly twice as many. :-s

I'm around. Just not around here most of the time.

Actually it is slightly more involved than that. Very slightly. Someone said something to me that simultaneously confused the hell out of me and pissed me off, so I decided to take a break from these forums to let the confusion and pissed off-ness die down. Then my primary computer broke. I figured I'd come back when it was fixed.

It still isn't fixed. (Though apparently parts have been received and the repair is underway.)
This was for him after all.
I like it. Thank you.

It was actually what brought me here today. I was doing something completely unrelated, looked at history organized by site, saw your deviant art page in there, went there, saw me, and then came here to comment on it.

I was sorry to hear that you wouldn't be the concept artist for Project Hyperion. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Of course you like the coat. It's a Browncoat brown coat. And, as I recall, the gloves are from .hack//Sign and the armor is from Dark Forces. Teknikal probably knew none of that.

It does look fantastic.

Sure sure! Phas is so fun to draw. On the list now ^_^

Oh and ummm proportions secrets? Well yeah I forgot about the 7 head count thing (eep... sorry!) I do so much stylized stuff I tend to forget about all that, 'cause I like having fun playing round with proportions. Thanks for pointing that all out Leo. I should have myself, being artist and all that. :P

Also on the list! :D
spyhopping wrote:Love your new pics Teknikal, particularly liking the current TNM poster! I'll have to have a proper browse to see what you've been up to! ;) I should really get round to doing zero presence again, he's an interesting character to draw with his cybernetic blue lines. Think I'll start a new pic this time though, my style has changed quite a bit since I did that rough start all those months ago.
Thanks spyhopping! Can't wait to see more stuff from you since your arts awesome!

*sighs* Yeah I was really excited about it. Alas I need to focus on finishing university at the moment. I hated saying no, but it was a better decision than risk having to back out half-way and mess it up for everyone. But, who knows what the future holds? :)

LOL I though I'd seen that armor before. XD
