Just a hint here for any other potential vocie actors, the headset for the PS2 works insanely well! I can do my lines with a movie in the background with that thing (much to the annoyance of my dad). I'll send my tape in tonight, I got a little bogged down in homework this weekend but I should have time tonight.

Hey guys Unstop here
I intercepted these transmissions. Something is going on at Unatco HQ. That place is going haywire!
First I intercepted this guy called Page. What the hell was he talking about?

Then I managed to track down this:

Things started to get weird here though!:

Finally I just had to call for mommy after hearing this evil laughing bastards:

SpiritVII helped me a lot to make these. Without him I wouldn't have made anything at all.

I like your voice, and I'm sure we could fit your accent into a few parts, but I must admit, I'm none too fond of your recording quality. Is there any way to improve upon it? For example, by borrowing a better microphone from somebody?
You were the one who just went out and bought a headset, right? I'm sorry to say, desktop microphones are usually far better

That was my first time using audacity, I'm sure if i fiddle around with the input/output volume I can improve quality, but I wanted to send the first one I made to you to see if it was worth it. I'll see what I can do about the quality, and maybe other desktop mics are different, but mine picks up everything besides my voice, no matter what I try. Out of curiosity, what voices where you interested in?
EDIT: Oh crap. if you werent talking to me, let me know, Ill get rid of this.

If you're talking to me yea I was the one who went out and bought a headset. As for the quality I added the low pitch and mechanical voices on purpose. I can record my regular voice if you like and make sure it's high quality. It's ok about the headset, this one will suit me for what I need it. I do have an accent. I'll be uploading some regular voice overs in a few minutes.Jonas wrote:I like your voice, and I'm sure we could fit your accent into a few parts, but I must admit, I'm none too fond of your recording quality. One more thing I'd like to note. All the noises you hear were created by Goldwave. I did them on purpose. For Example Gunther Herman sounds like a helicopter mechanical voice on purpose. He's been upgraded. Anyway below is a normal recorded voice. I filtered the initial noise and tried to get rid of any abnormal stuff. It's ok i think.

If Jonas is talking about 'Unstoppable' and is hearing the same as I was hearing, I think he meant the cracking every now and then. It seems like the audio has been recorded too loud, which causes distortion.
I'm not really sure what the proper English term is, however I have found a (Dutch) wikipedia article with nice graphics that explain what I mean:
http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oversturing
A suggestion could be recording at lower volume.
@Devon: If you have trouble with background noise, I would try recording at a lower volume level, placing the mic further away and speak up a little.

ERR did you listen to the last one I did? With my voice just normal? The truth is my mic records way too low. So I raise the volume up by 13 fold. Then I filter as best as I can and eliminate any extra noise I can via the waves and equalizer. Is there anyway to get my mic to record higher?
I'll try experimenting.

That's much better. At some point, Moonbo will hopefully drop in and check it out, maybe forward it to Spaic for quality assurance. Then we'll get you some lines.Unstoppable wrote:Anyway below is a normal recorded voice. I filtered the initial noise and tried to get rid of any abnormal stuff. It's ok i think.

I'm sorry, I just can't tell you that. Not only because I want to be all secretive, but also because I don't know yet. But we'll get back to you if Moonbo ever gets the time to sit down with me and assign some parts. Please don't go anywhere, things are... chaotic at the moment.Devon wrote:Out of curiosity, what voices where you interested in?

Thanks a lot. Just what I wanted to hear. Glad me and Devon got some info and the opportunity. BTW Devon if you need something to record on use goldwave. www.goldwave.com Then you can convert to OGG. It also has a whole mess of features. Like initial noise feature. That's what I use.
Also SpiritVII told me about http://www.fsphost.com. A free file transfer protocal server to store your stuff. You can use the web broswer provided or use smart FTP. Search for it in google. Both are free. Hell this reminds me of what Bob Page said with unlimited bandwidth.
Oh I figured out that my mic was too low. I just went into sounds under the control panel, then voices, then moved my mic bar up. Fixed it in a jiffy. I was even playing a mod called Thievery via teamspeak.(Http://www.thieveryut.com)
Anyway Jonas I know you and the whole crew has busy lives. Appreciate the time you took to look at our stuff. BTW Devon if you need any help with the recording stuff my AIM is just a click away.

Thanks for the offer Unstop, but as I already mentioned, Im still getting used to audacity, one new recording program is enough, and it also converts to OGG.
Excuse me for my quick posting, I was a little eager to get an answer and didn't even check if it was me the comment was directed at, it wont happen again.

I agree, also good to read you solved your 'mic trouble'Jonas wrote:That's much better. (...blah...)Unstoppable wrote:Anyway below is a normal recorded voice. I filtered the initial noise and tried to get rid of any abnormal stuff. It's ok i think.

I also recommend this microphone. 27$
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 9395744084
It's the one I use for gaming and recording. Just make sure you got a microphone slot on your sound card or motherboard.(At the back of the computer)
If you got nice speakers you might have em on there. However you CANNOT stick the audio in the speakers and the microphone in back of computer unless both are really close. Because the way the cords are designed it won't let you split them. This is good and bad. Good cuz less wear and tear, bad cuz you gotta be switching between speakers and headset sound.
Devon don't give up. Keep recording. They all kinds of people and that's why they got open enrollment for the voices.
