deep insights into the workings of the radish are explored heavily. for example, in one scene, the absence of radishes from saiset's early works is delved into, thus raising the important question, "does the absence of a radish signify the main character's lust for his own mother?"

the answer, like most of the truths about life, will be revealed in time.

I just played through Enter the Matrix. Its philosophy was agonizing. As long as TNM isn't saying "According to Kierkegaard...", "Hey, thats what William James said once!", or "I'll just irrelevantly explain Hume's opinion on inductive reasoning for you", I won't hate it ;-). Seriously, those were in the script. It was as if it was trying to teach random trivia from authors I've read before, rather than make me actually think about philosophy. They really tried to get more direct philosophy into there after the first movie I guess. Deus Ex was good -- it presented issues, sometimes offered an opinion or a player option, and made the issues subtle if you weren't looking for them.

Well TNM really isn't about philosophy, but being essentially a huge analogy, it does present some interesting things to think about, mostly about online sociology and such. There are also some good, deep pieces of dialogue towards the end of the game, but in generally it's kinda hard to be funny and deep at the same time - it's possible, I know, but maybe I'm just not that good ;)

A while (read: "a few hundred years") ago there was a revolution in music when people realized that if you had moments of total silence it would make the rest of the music that much more powerful.

Doesn't the occasional non-funny deep thing thrown in serve as a way to make the funny moments seem even more funny by creating contrast in a manner similar to silence used in music?

To be honest, no: in TNM it would come across as jarringly "why the hell are they being so serious all of a sudden?"

Constant subtle humour with moments of outright hilarity definitely plays to Jonas's strengths.

Thank you, DDL :)

But I still think the convos in the very last level managed to hit a good combination of depth and humour. I know Gelo, for one, shares that point of view.

So insights in the origins of radishes will only be provided in the very last level... Well then, obviously now I'll have to complete TNM.

Dear lord, the melding of vegetables and Freudian psychology, we are screwed.

How the FUCK did you manage that? I got to the second car scene, tried and failed it 30 times, and uninstalled the game in anger, then set the CDs on fire. WORST FUCKING GAME EVER. Battlefield 1942 has better AI drivers. Jesus, The Legend of Zelda has better driver AI, and it doesn't have driving at all. PONG had better driver AI.
