I fled from him (and hit the button before hand) without koing or killing him, and the guy still wants me to talk to him...

Obviously you need to KO/kill "the guy"(Endar)....

"Running away" implies that you didn't talk to him, or that you pissed him off and he tried to kill you. You have two options:
1: Ryan becomes allied again after a little bit, so go talk to him again
2: Kill/KO Endar.... realistically he wouldn't give you the key if you talked to Ryan and then tried to put a bullet in his head, or pissed him off.
