importing textures

Post by Neveos »

So I'm finally getting around to importing textures, and my texture is coming in all wavy and colorful in my editor. Like someone ran a magnet over the screen. Any idea why? I saved it as .bmp in paint in 256x256 (which kept failing import). Then I saved it, using gimp, as a .pcx, and now it imports but it is distorted.

-edit- Also I just found out about this HDTP. quite literally. So it is done? How does it work? Is it just a separate mod adding to the pool of textures or does it replace textures? Is it using the same engine, and if so how does it do bump mapping?

Um, Whenever I've imported textures I've never had an issue, but it's a while since I've done it and I've always used Photoshop, albeit an old version.

As for the HDTP thing below that;
HDTP is the mod replacing the models of everything in the game; weapons and characters etc.
Due to what you said, I think you are getting mixed up with the New Vision mod, which is replacing the world textures. It does this using an updated renderer that allows textures at high resolutions to be imported into the engine.
The real trouble with reality is that there's no background music.

This is what it looks like in and outside the editor:

Here is the file if anyone wants to analyze its properties:

And I was actually looking at this video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mm0QkaW- ... re=related

but I didn't know which addition was responsible for the bump mapping. I am really interested in having bump mapping in the mod.

-edit- oh it's called enb series or something, and this guy has merged hdtp and enb to enhance the graphics at this website: http://www.helderpinto.com/blog/persona ... d-v01.html

The Textures must have 256 colors. That kills some of the details.
Use irfanview to decrease the colours and meke them pcx.
I'm working on some textures of 4096x4096 whit Paint.Net. I will post the resoults some day.

thanks miguel, that was the issue. I thought saving it as a .bmp would convert it automatically, but it did not. So, with gimp, all I had to do was right click on the image, go to "image", "mode", "indexed" (I don't know how a lay person is expected to figure this out), and set it to 256 and convert it. Now it is in there fine.
