Appealing for a Texture Artist's Kind Nature

A refuge for those migrating from the fallen DXEditing.com and a place for general discussion relating to Deus Ex editing (coding, mapping, etc).

Appealing for a Texture Artist's Kind Nature

Post by AlvinD »

Im currently back on track with producing D.A.I (http://dai.moddb.com) and I am in need of any Texture Artists out there willing to give a hand, all realitively handy stuff and to keep the legacy of DX going!

Ooo. I like your story line idea. Whenever I finish the iwr mod, I already had another mod in mind which would strive for a realistic plot (you'll like this):

In the 2050's extra-planetary colonization had already been established on the moon, and it was decided that the first manned mission to Mars would consist of setting up a colony there due to the extended travel time it requires (8 months).

It was decided that three massive vessels, constructed from the lunar surface, would contain a crew of 25 persons each. They would each enter Mar's orbit, and begin construction of a space elevator, before landing their respective colonizing equipment. These craft would fly parallel to each other carrying all the equipment needed to establish a colony.

After a lot of preparation, the world stood in wait as they watched the launch of the vessels.

As a passenger, and future Mars colonist, you are a security officer on the right most vessel. 4 months go by smoothly, until communications are lost with the middle vessel. Earth instructs the other two vessels to wait to see if the inhabitants can bring their comms back online.

Hoping they would fix the communication, 3 days of non communication passes by when, much to everyone's fright, all signs of significant electrical power in the vessel were lost. Just as it was being decided how an investigation/rescue operation would begin, the left-most vessel claims your craft is beginning to show the same signs as the middle did. Great lengths were taken to prevent this, but suddenly, comms are lost within your own ship.

The problem cannot be identified, and if power is lost in your ship, living conditions could diminish to such disparity that the entire colony would not survive the mission. Those in the middle ship are 3 days ahead of your ship on the problem, and because normal docking routines are handled electronically, it is decided that a make-shift rocket craft be designed to ensure enough flight to and from the middle vessel. The distance is staggering, and a significant amount of spacewalking must be done to open a hatch to enter. You and an engineer are asked to escort 2 scientists to the middle ship in order to at least establish a line of communication between your ship and the others... and hopefully Earth.

What if the problem could simply be fixed overnight, and is this migration worth the risk? What are the conditions of those in the middle ship? Is the left ship likely to have the same failure? Would the entire colony need to migrate to the left ship?

Imagine being able to play out the entire storyline from launch to landing, and make major plot changing decisions. A creator could carry out all the possible storylines where the player must learn to be brave, but not too brave, in order to survive the mission. The player must stray from ridiculous heroism, and make wise cautious decisions.

I'm a mapper, I make a lot of space maps. Working on a few right now.
I really like the sound of this.
I can make textures, but I'm not expert, although I do have PS and making textures is relatively quick.

I'm massively busy working on CTF maps, Stargate maps and Human Revolution maps, but at some point this summer, I will get some free time.

If I disappear you will find me at http://www.deusexmultiplayer.freeforums.org

Do you have any initial ideas of how the spaceships should look. Do you want something very realistic like NASA proposed vehicles, or something further into the future?

I'd lend a hand but aside from New Vision I don't think I have the enthusiasm to do game art anymore (the only reason I'm doing it for NV is just because I want to get the damn thing finished!).
