Map gone blank

Map gone blank

Post by AlvinD »

I was learning to import music into a map everything went successfull until i press F6 and selected the file that i had converted. It was from *.it to a umx format. I played the level and it just brought me to the DX main menu and when i went to the UnrealEd everything had gone! anyone know where i went wrong/ how i can recover this?

Maybe you could try importing the incorrect file first. Go to "music" (in the browser window), and either "load" or "import" the incorrect file. Maybe it will load after that.

Neveos could be right, check the log window when you load the map in the editor, if it says the music file is missing "cannot find file for package" then that's your problem.

If not, sometimes maps just fail to load for some unknown reason, best to create multiple map files and when your done editing a map, test it and if it loads in game, then save that map as another backup file just incase you edit the map and somehow lose it, you'll have a backup. Once I lost a map I was working on, 7 times I lost it and there was no reason to, had all textures, music, sounds, classes imported into the right files that were used in the map, editor was just being a b**ch. Not sure if the new editing pack 2.2 editor is less prone to doing this or not.

The Ued2 2.2 has an auto-save feature which cycles through a set of autosaves as you work on it. It has been very useful. Yeah, the new user should use that, and the DXOgg.u for the music.

Well that simply means you don't have some files..

Check the log from the editor, and then try forging the music file, I.E rename any existing music file with that name or so.

If it's a U package, try finding it online, if it's a custom U package and you seem to have no information about, we can discuss that in MSN or something

Are you sure the map is gone, or the brushes and actors are set "invisible", like in single player Silo Map. If the map still plays but is invisible in the editor, then I suspect that is what has happened. I can't remember offhand the command to make everything appear again, but it's dead simple and in the menu or a right click with mouse.

I do "save as" to create multiple stage versions of a map. Then if the experiment failed, I can go back to the previous version of the map. The only thing, you have to remember which is the most current version of your map.

open the log, type

actor unhide all

that's what reveals stuff set to bhiddenEd.

If your map is actually wiped, the filesize will be waaaay down. If it still contains stuff but refuses to actually load because of missing package dependencies, it'll be a sizeable file.
