High-Definition Manhattan Skyline I Made

Post by Fiberawptic »

I'd first really like to thank those of you that helped me here with my little project i started. So i really love the first level of DX, but let's be honest, that NYC skyline might have looked "pretty" 10 years ago, but its part of the game that's really showed its age. I figured it was time it started to look more like NYC. After about 15 total hours of work with very few breaks, and the endless bombardment of technical issues, i finally finished my little project. Don't remember what the original skyline looked like? Allow me to refresh your memory...

After near starvation from almost killing myself getting it done, i present to you:

I know in the context of the entire game it isn't that much, but it was more work than one may think with endless tweaking of things... My OCD went nuts on this... Redoing the entire game? Well, that's DaveW's job ;). Which reminds me, Dave, if you see this and you like it, you are more than welcome to use it for your New Vision mod. Just contact me. Let me know what you guys think.

I'm in two minds about the New York skyline - I actually remade it based on a few photos a few weeks ago (I think I used the same one as you for the majority of it). It all looked fairly good in Photoshop, but as soon as I brought it into Deus Ex it looked awful because of how the mappers used the textures ingame.

I'm inclined to leave it out of the current New Vision release and add the HD skylines back with the map pack, but without bad texture alignment issues.

That said yours doesn't look like it has the same issues as mine had. Maybe I exported it wrong or something.

Up to you. But yea i hear ya, the skyline is a pain in the tuchus because of how the mappers set it up. Luckily, i never had any alignment issues because i used one photograph for the entire thing. I could see how using several different photos would cause an inconsistent flow.
