Yeah we'll just set the launch price at $50 and then "discount" it to the $30 the game is actually worth!

how do you determine what the game is worth? Because I can't think of a single way that isn't incredibly flawed.Jonas wrote:Yeah we'll just set the launch price at $50 and then "discount" it to the $30 the game is actually worth!

It's easy: We ask a bunch of people what they would pay for it and that's what it's worth. Supply and demand, you know?

I'm pretty sure that is not how supply and demand works, I mean you have an infinite supply and a finite demand, so technically, you should give it out for free . But yeah that seems like a pretty good way to go.Jonas wrote:It's easy: We ask a bunch of people what they would pay for it and that's what it's worth. Supply and demand, you know?

Talk to people and ask how much they would pay to get on the QA team ^^
Hmm, I really wish I had a signature...

Get some games magazine or website to give your game a pre-emptive Game of the Year award so you can stick that on the box. That one PC mag that gave TNM a print review should be up for it, right?

Just sell your game for $0,10 - but only a hundred of them, and then the rest will be like $30 or $50. It will get you lots of attention and PR (just make up some story about "respecting gamers" blah blah blah "we're gamers ourselves, we know how expensive they can be" blah blah blah "we love you guys"), and it won't cost you a lot of money.
(Yes, I know that every idea I've posted so far is pretty unconventional, but THEY WORK.)

Even the big companies do this. Look at Microsoft? They had a special deal for people who pre-ordered Windows 7. $49.99 for Windows 7 Home (RRP of $119.99) and Windows 7 Professional for $99.99 (RRP of $199.99 IIRC).gamer0004 wrote:Just sell your game for $0,10 - but only a hundred of them, and then the rest will be like $30 or $50. How do you know they work if they're unconventional?

I have a gift of predicting the future. For instance, I can see that within 20 years beer drinking apes will conquer the world using French cheese to stupefy their enemies.Jonas wrote:How do you know they work if they're unconventional?

Oh PC Powerplay would so indeed be willing to support that. They love Deus Ex. They adored TNM. It's only logical they'd be behind OTP on Hyperion.Trestkon wrote:Haha, that would indeed be awesome :pJetsetlemming wrote:Get some games magazine or website to give your game a pre-emptive Game of the Year award so you can stick that on the box. And looking at Wolfire's games again. The online support comic is a great way to suck people into the story and game world before the game's even released. Maybe a prequel comic or something?
Omg random idea alert. (this is me being crazy)... A prequel comic. Half a page a month released online and printed in PC Powerplay!
Ok I'm getting carried away now... XD

Re: Hyperion PR - Suggestions Thread
I do quite like the comic idea. It's slightly stale now as it seems almost everyone does it, but that's just because it's pretty darn effective. We'll have to see what we can come up withteknikal wrote:Oh PC Powerplay would so indeed be willing to support that. They love Deus Ex. They adored TNM.
