Shifter-Mod doesnt do anything?

Post by Merrin »

Greetings,

after quite some time I wanted to replay Deus Ex, but I wanted to "freshen up" the experience first.

So I downloaded the Shifter-Mod from ModDB, did the quick-install (replacing the DeusEX.u and -.int files in the DeusEx/System-folder) and started the game, but the changes promised in the README.txt didn't seem to kick in.

For instance the new "unrealistic" difficulty is nowhere to be seen when starting a new game and crowbars don't do extra damage.

I've got DXGOTY(non-steam)+New Vision+HDTP installed.

The installation-process is really only copy and paste, so I doubt that I made a mistake there :P

There are no error messages either.

Anyone else encountered the same problem? And found a fix for it?

Rename DeusEx\HDTP\System\DeusEx.u to DeusEx.u.unused

Thanks! =D>

The crowbar does double the damage now ;)

Though I still couldn't see the "unrealistic" difficulty in the new game - menu ( is it to be unlocked )?

And I take it there is no way of playing Shifter and HDTP together?

Because now, there is no HDTP-Options-menu anymore and the meshes for weapons, crates etc. also reverted back to normal :/

To enable Unrealistic difficulty you must right click on Realistic.

Wow, thanks; didn't know that :)

Shifter v1.8.4 supports loading HDTP Release 1 assets. Shifter v1.9 RC1 supports loading HDTP Release 2 (beta) assets.

Yeah, Shifter doesn't support that menu. All that menu does is allow you to enable/disable character meshes individually. You can disable all character meshes at once by renaming DeusEx\HDTP\System\HDTPCharacters.u to DeusEx\HDTP\System\HDTPCharacters.u.unused. We might port HDTP menu so Shifter, but it probably won't happen before summer.

Hmm, strange. Aight, do the following:
That should work. If not, post your DeusEx.log.

-v

P.S.: Hey, if you want high-resolution HUD & UI, and new HQ belt & inventory icons, you can also check out the mod in my signature ;-)

I already am ;)

I dig the new fonts (very friendly to the eye), though I must say that the belt-item-icons dont really look THAT hi-res :P (see attachment).

Also, while the crate-meshes are definitely are HDTP, the weapon mesh aren't (also see attachment - the gun usually looks more sexy with HDTP).

I used a fresh install of DXGOTY and followed the installation instructions in your README to a tee (version 0.2.1).

Maybe it's supposed to look like that?

Not to diminish your tremendous efforts, though =D>

I don't see any attachments with the post, can you please put them at some file hosting, or so?

Belt & inventory icons are supposed to look like images at ModDB, do they?

Edit: ahem, weird. It looks like your game is loading neither HDTP, nor new icons.
  • Are you running on Windows?
  • Are you using D3D10 renderer?
  • Are you running at resolution with width at least 1280 and height at least 960?
  • What are the contents of your DeusEx\HDTP\System\ directory, with file sizes? Did you reinstall HDTP via ggrotz' installer?
  • What .exe are you using to start the game?
  • Also, do you have detailed textures and S3TC enabled?
Also, post your DeusEx.log or so.

I used OpenGL #-o

Inventory and Belt now look exactly like they should, with D3D.

But still the Weapons have the old meshes, while the crates have the new, HDTPy ones

Ok, delete your DeusEx\HDTP\ directory, and re-run installer by ggrotz.

Did that, and now the weapons look sexy aswell, thanks ;)

While we're at it: According to the Shifter readme, I should be awarded skill points for every (hostile) kill/ko I score.

I electro-proded 3 enemies, and no skill points :(

I have 'bNewSkillSystem' activated in the DeusEx.ini

Your .ini files now live under "My Documents\DeusEx\"

Also, are you using DeusEx.exe to start? Otherwise your .ini file will be named differently.

?

Indeed

How did that happen, and how was I supposed to know? :)

Anyway, thanks for your eager help ;)

Marijn Kentie moved it there, because on Vista/Win7/Win8 non-administrative users may not have write permissions for DeusEx directory (depending on where it gets installed). Also, this way every user of the computer gets their own .ini settings and savegames.

You're right, it's counterintuitive. We'll mention it in readme for next unifiedDeusEx release. We'll also create a menu to configure Shifter and BioMod settings, hopefully by summer.

No worries, glad we finally got you set up :-)
