Deus Ex Music

Post by eviljoker7075 »

Hey guys! New here... But I wanted to ask around if anyone else here loves the music from Deus Ex (1)?

I am working on a site dedicated to the sound track, with remixes, rearrangements and other stuff. But I'm wondering if anyone here would be interested in helping out? I'm planning on having a small forum running which could use some mods.

I also need people to tell me about any remixes they know of or have etc.

Thanks for reading, let me know what you think!

Well... I do remember tzang's HD Music mod. And upon reading your post I decided to revisit his site, but apparently the project's on hold :(

Ok, something I need help with is compiling a list of all the levels, in order of unique music, if that makes sense! It seems my memory is not serving me all that well today!

All I need is a list of levels in chronological order, missing out those that repeat a song. So for example it would go:

(Training Level)
Liberty Island
UNATCO HQ
Battery Park
Hell's Kitchen
etc...

Can anyone help complete that?

This is my playlist for the music from the PC version:

Deus Ex
Deus Ex Intro
Training Room
Liberty Island
UNATCO
Battery Park
NYC Streets
NYC Bar 2
The Nothing
Lebedev Airfield
Paris Club 1
Majestic 12 Laboratories
Opponent Within
Hong Kong Helipad
Hong Kong Streets
Desolation
Hong Kong Club 2
Versalife
"Mission Eight"
Hong Kong Club 1
naval base, graveyard
DuClare Chateau / Paris
Paris Cathedral
vandenburg airfield
Nauticus
Mission 14, OceanLab 2
Begin the End
Area 51
Deus Ex Ending 1
Illuminati Ending
Deus Ex Ending 2
The Illuminati
Deus Ex Club Mix
Conspiravision
Alex Brandon - DX Ultimate Remix

Some of the filenames are way off from what they're actually used for in-game. For example, "Hong Kong Club 1" is actually played at the Underworld bar in New York.

Awesome!!

Thanks for that, but what are the level names for the songs which aren't obvious? I'll have a go at filling in the blanks and post up my results and you can help get it right lol!

If you've been paying attention to DX:R they are working on something similar.

The Nothing - Vandenberg Command Tunnels
Opponent Within - Escape from UNATCO
Desolation - Hong Kong Canals
Mission Eight - Last visit to NYC, (Superfreighter)
Nauticus - OceanLab/OceanLab UC
Mission 14, OceanLab 2 - Silo
Begin the End - Area 51 Bunker
The Illuminati - Credits

And like Zylon already mentioned, HK Club 1 is used for the Underworld Bar during the last visit to NYC. HK Streets is also alternately known as "Synapse," and I think Conspiravision was for the developer quotes. Oh, and Ending 1 is Tong's Dark Age Ending, Ending 2 is Helios' Ending.

Edit: and I think Paris Club 1 was also used for the Underworld Bar during the second visit to NYC.

Okay, here's the list again, with my descriptive filenames, and then each song's internal name in parentheses:

Deus Ex - Main Title.it (Deus Ex)
Deus Ex - Intro.it (Deus Ex Intro)
Deus Ex - Training.it (Training Room)
Deus Ex - NYC - Liberty Island.it (Liberty Island)
Deus Ex - NYC - UNATCO.it (UNATCO)
Deus Ex - NYC - Battery Park.it (Battery Park)
Deus Ex - NYC - Hells Kitchen 1.it (NYC Streets)
Deus Ex - NYC - Underworld 1.it (NYC Bar 2)
Deus Ex - NYC - Tunnels.it (The Nothing)
Deus Ex - NYC - LaGuardia.it (Lebedev Airfield)
Deus Ex - NYC - Underworld 2.it (Paris Club 1)
Deus Ex - NYC - MJ12.it (Majestic 12 Laboratories)
Deus Ex - NYC - UNATCO Return.it (Opponent Within)
Deus Ex - Hong Kong - Helipad.it (Hong Kong Helipad)
Deus Ex - Hong Kong - Market.it (Hong Kong Streets)
Deus Ex - Hong Kong - Canals.it (Desolation)
Deus Ex - Hong Kong - Lucky Money.it (Hong Kong Club 2)
Deus Ex - Hong Kong - VersaLife.it (Versalife)
Deus Ex - NYC - Hells Kitchen 2.it ("Mission Eight")
Deus Ex - NYC - Underworld 3.it (Hong Kong Club 1)
Deus Ex - NYC - Naval Base.it (naval base graveyard)
Deus Ex - Paris - Chateau.it (DuClare Chateau / Paris)
Deus Ex - Paris - Cathedral.it (Paris Cathedral)
Deus Ex - Vandenberg.it (vandenburg airfield)
Deus Ex - Ocean Lab 1.it (Nauticus)
Deus Ex - Ocean Lab 2.it (Mission 14 OceanLab 2)
Deus Ex - Area 51 - Bunker.it (Begin the End)
Deus Ex - Area 51.it (Area 51)
Deus Ex - Ending - New Dark Age.it (Deus Ex Ending 1)
Deus Ex - Ending - Illuminati.it (Illuminati Ending)
Deus Ex - Ending - Helios.it (Deus Ex Ending 2)
Deus Ex - End Credits.it (The Illuminati)
Deus Ex - Dance Mix.it (Deus Ex Club Mix)
Deus Ex - Quotes.it (Conspiravision)

Unfortunately the internal song names are different from the original UMX filenames, so a little guesswork may be involved in correlating these with what's in Deus Ex's Music folder.

Last time I checked there was one track, and it was 'just for kicks', or at least so it seemed.

Last time I checked they had 3 and it wasn't for kicks (Phase 3 or 4 of the DX:R schedule states the need to re-work all the music)

i have the complete soundtrack collection. Both the PC and PS2 versions of the original and full invisible war. The best site for the soundtrack so far is

http://jadiepoo.com/dx/OST/

^look around, you'll find all three. The only track missing is the third visit to New York's Underworld Tavern conversation, but that is apparently a five second piece that is looped in the game, so the ripper decided not to bother. As for invisible war, the tracks are so short that they needed to be looped 2x times or so.

Hope this helps :)

*The PS2 music was reworked from the original, but in ogg format I believe. I personally don't like the remix, i don't know if anyone shares this sentiment.

To much of the soundtrack is good to list. I have to wonder though if anyone has listened to the graveyard music included with the original submarine track. I noticed that Shifter 1.8 replaced Return to New York into the game, but not the graveyard tune. :? I'm too lazy to send the guy an email about that and a couple bugs I noticed...

You guys are awesome! Thanks :D

BTW - I think I now have confirmation from Eidos that use of the songs is ok... So not long until I get the site launched :D
