There's a piece of code in the steam game integration thingy that pauses downloads when a game is loaded. Annoyingly this is on by default and most developers don't turn it off.

That's what I heard anyway.

I'm bumping this thread because I'm having issues with Steam again. I've been in constant battle with it for about an hour now but I think I've got it working again, for now.
But whilst I was trying to find a fix, I stumbled upon on conflicting program list; one of which is AVG that I happen to use.

Just as a curious side question: What Anti-Virus do you guys use? I've used AVGFree for so long now and never had an issue with it nor any problems with Virus' (though I'm quite a careful surfer).
If AVG is causing issues, maybe a change is in order which is why I ask.

Norton 360. It's okay, but it's as much a dictator as Windows. :P

Microsoft Antivirus (security essentials IIRC). It's surprisingly extremely good. No noticable performance effect, few false positives and good protection.

Cheers. I don't think I'll go with Norton though. :P
I wanted a free one so I was thinking either Windows Security or Avast!
Probably the former because I've heard pretty good things about it.

Why the heck would Steam conflict with AVG? It's the best free anti-virus around.
Sucky Steam... <_<

It's quite an extensive list really. :/
Including Catalyst, Hamachi, and Skype...

Dont' have any anti virus software, and I haven't seen a virus in 5 years now, and I when I last got my PC. I think it's true what I say, you have to be an idiot to get a virus on Windows 7.

It makes sense you do not see a virus if you have no software that detects them ;)

Although the likelihood of an idiot getting a virus is much much larger than a normal user, none of us is immune. You just need to happen to browse to a website that abuses a zero-day exploit of your browser. The damage will not be that big if you have UAC enabled though, unless there are ways around that too (I haven't tried).

My Steam account is all screwy now. Was fine most of today... and now it's turned to shit. It was around the time they notified there was an update...

I closed the update window then noticed my community section is all blank! So I closed Steam and allowed the client to update and it's still crap. So I closed the client down for a few hours and just opened it again and still everything is blank...

It's pissing me off... ](*,)

I checked with a friend and his was fine. Is anyone else experiencing this issue, or am I the only lucky one? :x

Your profile page is causing an event horizon. :P

Mine was okay, when I clicked on yours I got a page 304 (?!) error. I clicked 'reload' and it then came up correctly. It might have fixed itself since you posted.

Last night it wasn't working period tried periodically on and off ... I sent support a message around 2am this morning attached with a screenshot. When I got up today and checked it... it was back to normal. It probably would have still been screwed if I didn't make support aware.

Anyone else having Steam not booting up your games? :/
The only one who wanted was mentioning I should re-read their user rights. It was updated recently after all... in 2005! :-s

Sometimes I get "this game is unavailable, try again later." It hasn't happened recently though.

They all were in infinite "preparing [X]" mode... seems fine now though.
Just thought that user agreement popup weird too. Silly Steam.
