Run some 32-bit apps on Windows 7 64-bit

Post by Morpheus »

I did search before posting this and couldn't find any real help other than "contact the vendor" or "Windows 7 does support running most 32-bit programs on 64-bit" but doesn't help. Basically I had a few programs (I forget which...I think I couldn't get Deus Ex: IW DVD to run but can't find it to check again) and would like to run these on my Windows 7 64-bit professional OS without (unless there is no alternative) using a virtual PC to run them off that. Anyone know if there is a way? I think most are windows XP era date or older. Compatibility mode doesn't help.

There are one or two programs that won't run on Windows 7 (for me it's usually games). I think some 32 bit programs use a 16 bit installer and 16 bits definitely won't run on a 64 bit OS. If you don't want a virtual partition how about a dual boot?

They're probably 16-bit. Microsoft dropped 16-bit support in Vista, I think. It's common for installers to be 16-bit.
