Re: Game OST's
I think Bastion has the best soundtrack I've ever heard. It was one of several aspects of the game that really elevated it above its otherwise fairly hum-drum top-down action-RPG gameplay. Particularly Build That Wall really blew me away when it started playing in the game - that video doesn't entirely do it justice, a lot of its impact is down to the way it's used in the actual game level.
I'm quite big on the Far Cry 3 soundtrack at the moment. It's very varied, and yet it suits each individual moment of gameplay very well, and simultaneously the tracks form a fairly coherent tone. Further is my favourite track, I think it's very evocative, but there were also some amazing moments with licensed songs throughout the game (particularly the Skrillex one was fucking hilarious).

No, but I like some of the soundtrack.Cybernetic pig wrote:

I agree with most of the posts here but I'll add in the soundtracks to SimCity 3000 & SimCity 4. Both are outstanding. The extra tone a soundtrack can add to a movie or video game should not be underestimated!

Some more
FF7: Dirge of Cerberus- Turks 101: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CX6_eif_xnw
A nice console Third person shooter/RPG that had so much potential, but it had decent gameplay and at the end of the day that is what matters most, unlike some cough, Mass Effect.
Syphon Filter 1 - Expo Center Reception: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObHVmo96jXQ
Console DX. Even had lean. And conspiracies. Came out a year before DX though.
Arx Fatalis - The Temple of Akbaa: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXoCagWHPZw
Criminally underrated, and even quite fucking scary. Will test your intelligence at times (crazy puzzles), and balls.
Forget Dishonored, Arx Fatalis is far better.
Atmosphere is also deep in Arx. 5 miles underground kinda deep.

Agreed, but sadly often is underestimated these days. I rarely even notice game soundtracks anymore. All too often it's the generic "EPIC" music too, so I just block that shit out.kdawg88 wrote: The extra tone a soundtrack can add to a movie or video game should not be underestimated!

Amnesia has an Amazingly Good soundtrack.
Also, every OST that Jeremy Soule touched turns out well.
The original VTMB Theme is interesting too

Journey to Silius Title Theme (by Naoki Kodaka): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gb_pBN-xCZo
The soundtrack on that thing is quite amazing considering the system: a friggin' NES for God's Sake!
Naoki Kodaka, or how to push the sound capabilities of a system to its limits, the music could have been on the Snes. And every track for Silius is just like that, pure genius:
Journey to Silius Level 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAFr9zHO51w
Note: Kodaka did a lot of music for the Nes (Blaster Master, Batman,...)

Final Fantasy 6- Magitek Factory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bq_Qf3mVnCo
Nobuo Uematsu is the greatest vid game composer of all time! Consistent masterpieces all the way up to FFX.
Doom- Episode 1, Lvl 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxdM5_5adp8
Go play Brutal Doom Mod. It is the next level of classic doom.
Wolfenstien (2009): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnvsLToMvDM
This game, whilst it had it's flaws, was actually kickass. The only modern straight-up FPS singleplayer game I have enjoyed. Still should have been better though.
Put it here for a lack of modern games in the thread too (although there is a good reason for that).

Re: Game OST's
I love a good soundtrack, but I find myself hardly ever listening to them. There are exceptions, like Deus Ex, TNM, Mass Effect and some Metal Gear.
Also, speaking as a fellow musician myself, Leo Badinella is fucking badass. I love his work. Beyond Consciousness is a brilliant album. Anyone who hasn't given it a listen, listen to it. It's awesome.

Thank you guys. I'm very happy you like my music. I'm doing my best on the Expeditions: Conquistador soundtrack and I promise it will not disappoint you.
...though there are no electric guitars in this one. Sorry, YeomanTheCastle.
My favorite videogame OST are, from the top of my head: Final Fantasy VII, Vagrant Story, and Deus Ex.
Honorable mentions go to Soul Reaver, Twin Cobra, Troubled Souls, and I'm probably missing bunch.

Yep you can add me to the praise singing choir, TNM soundtrack is excellent.
That is one hardcore console game. Have you completed it?LeoBad wrote: Vagrant Story,
