Re: Tour of the ISS
That was extremely cool. The forward planning that went into the space station before it was built must have been exacting. Exercise equipment that wasn't hard fixed to a wall so it wouldn't disturb the solar arrays outside...I'm sure I wouldn't have considered that option.
I wonder if the confined spaces actually make you feel more secure in the zero gravity environment?

Re: Tour of the ISS
I saw it when it was posted a couple of weeks ago. It's super cool!
I'm looking forward to the last module Nauka that's scheduled for a launch next year and I'm quite interested in what Robonaut 2 can learn us.

...so that's what a spacecraft commander looks like. I somehow didn't expect her to be so chipper. That tour is pretty enchanting.

Dunno, being able to do the superman pose flying around every time you have to traverse the station, and going into that observatory globe is probably the cause of thatAEmer wrote:I somehow didn't expect her to be so chipper.
And the big fat paycheck of course. Oh, and she was going home that day.
I get what you mean though. She is not the stereotypical boss lady.
The thing that would probably annoy me is living in zero-g environment, yet fuck all space to move! No zero-g basketball, zero g races etc.
She was playing around but she still has to be careful of all that equipment.

Was anyone else thinking to themselves - YEVGENI, YEVGENI, WHERE IS YEVGENI?????
Re: Tour of the ISS
personally, I was thinking 'the enemy gate is down'

Re: Tour of the ISS
Same chances as playing any other contact sport i'd have thought...
Re: Tour of the ISS
I don't think basketball is meant to be a contact sport...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contact_sport
In "contact" sports (such as basketball), athletes routinely make contact with each other or inanimate objects but usually with less force than in collision sports.
Re: Tour of the ISS
BUT IF YOU SCROLL DOWN
So I'd say Jonas's point is still valid. Because good luck with that in microgravity.Limited-contact sports are sports for which the rules are specifically designed to prevent contact between players either intentionally or unintentionally. Contact can still happen, but penalties are often used to disallow substantial contact between players. These penalties, including physically removing players from the field of play, mean that contact is moderate or rare.
Examples include baseball, muthafuckin basketball, field hockey, netball, squash, running and soccer.
Re: Tour of the ISS
ehh...
I'd never have thought to put basketball and soccer on the same list.
I guess it's because of messed up sports like american football and rugby, and yeah compared with those, I guess soccer and basketball are similar in terms of contact.
And to be fair, you do get to whap the player with the ball on his hands in basketball.

Who's to say the rules cannot be altered to further reduce chances of injury?DDL wrote:Limited-contact sports are sports for which the rules are specifically designed to prevent contact between players either intentionally or unintentionally. .
...I suppose it would just become netball then i'd still play.
