The Crowbar

Post by DetroitMatt »

I love everything in the release. Except the crowbar. It looks like it's laminated. There's shiny, and there's silly. The crowbar is the latter. Is it my machine rendering it wrong, or is it supposed to look like this?

Thoughts on the crowbar?

The crowbar in the main game should look fine but in the test level it's over shiny because it's using the wrong texture if I remember correctly.

Beautiful. I really gotta play farther in, and not drop every crowbar I find right away.

Yep, sadly the crowbar in the game is totally useless.
Shame actually. Same than with Combat Knife.

Until you get the sword, the crowbar is the most damaging melee weapon, if I'm not mistaken.

I always stick with the baton anyway, because I never use melee, except to sneak attack where power is really irrelevant, and the space is worth more.

Uh-huh, but that's Shifter. In the real game, you don't get the sword until Hong Kong (when it makes sense).

Still Shifter gives more good than bad and this sword is not too much upgrade so you get almost none advantage...

I love the baton. That animation and noise gets me every time.

It's better than going around knighting everyone with a sword. The sword seemed culturally decorative, being so large in inventory with such a clunky animation. As Jonas says, it's tied to Hong Kong, I'd think to the culture portrayal.

Bot to mention you get the DTS like 30 minutes later.

I liked the new crowbar, except, was the original animations used or were they replaced? I could sense the animations may not have been the same as the older ones and I didn't like that so much. Looks like your just tapping the crowbar when your using it at times, unless it swings and if I am not mistaken, with original you don't have the tapping look animation.

My recollection is that (unrealistically, it seems to me) the baton does more damage than the other early melee weapons. Allow me to google it....

dotdotdotdotdot...

Well, according to this guide on GameFAQs, the crowbar claims 6 damage, while the baton claims 7. The guide also claims that "the baton is virtually useless in melee combat", so I don't know what the real story is.
