TNM would've benefitted immensely from SpeedTree.

We should get a speedtree license, it's only $15,000 I think!

No wait sorry, it's only $10,000 bargain!

Nothing a donation drive couldn't solve.

Though it wouldn't solve the issue of us not having the actual frickin' engine source code required to implement it.

Frankly I think Eidos should buy us one.

Since it's like developing a new DX game, might as well buy Eidos too.

For the trees, you might have some luck if you put up the original model in .3ds format (if possible), plus textures, so that someone who isn't knowledgeable about the DX conversion process can have a go.

That would be perfect for me seeing as I would love to play with it. What software would I need to edit it? I would assume 3ds max (I love being in first robotics) and photoshop would be good enough?
Hmm, I really wish I had a signature...

Not a lot to edit: the original trees (or at least the worst offenders) are basically two intersecting sheets with a tree texture on.

You're selling DX short there, DDL.

They are three intersecting sheets.

I wasn't talking about editing the original models, but rather using them as a guide. I always like to have them there when remaking models so that I can get a proper sense of the shape and size that the new model should be.

Here you go, textures not included.

Click me to download.

They are in .obj format so you need, Max 9 or above. If you have a lower version of Max you need to google Obj2Max to find the plugin.

Wow those models are boxy.
It does beg the question of if for example bush #1 - which is basically a cube with stem - is cube-shaped because it's a low-poly model or if it's cube-shaped because it's meant to be a cube-shaped bush.

It's meant to be cube-shaped - that one is supposed to be a very well trimmed plant of the kind you might find in a carefully maintained corporate garden. I deduct this from the fact that the other bushes are proper round - though, of course, created from 3 intersecting sheets.
