I'm so gonna miss this board when the mod is done...
Hello everybody!
First of all, I'd like to thank the authors for the long waiting time. The forum has been a great source of frustration, and as a masochistic personality there is nothing more comforting to me than a little of the old "you have to be patient" stuff.
I mean, I sincerely enjoy reading the 25-page long discussions where the point is lost around page 2, and then it's all about who said what and so on. I even started one of my own, back in the day (To all the defenders). This one is yet another foot in the ant-hill, I guess.
I will probably move on to some other neverending project once this is done, but it will be hard to find something I really care about, like the Deus Ex game.
I'm interested, what are your reasons for sticking to the forum? If you are interested in the final product, I bet it will show up on the front page of moddb, after all.

I'm sticking here because this forum is vaguely DX related and otherwise a lot of fun. The wait for HDTP and Hyperion is only mildly appealing to me when compared to the vast amount of interesting discussions in Off Topic and General Deus Ex. It's done when it's done. Until then, I just have fun with the other threads.

Just ignore the idiot, EER. You're only justifying his trolling by responding to him.
If you're going through hell, then just keep going.

Trolls exist in all forms, even on forums for a mod for a game that didn't really sell all that well

El_OT did some mild trolling for reactions, but nothing too annoying or insulting. I agree with them both, that the 25-page off-topic discussions are interesting. It's probably why I'm here, so I'd stay if HDTP released and the discussions continued afterward. I understand the negativity since I haven't been anticipating HDTP for a couple years now, but still knowing they'll release some time and it'll be really enjoyable, so that's why I'm not too frustrated.
Sorry El_OT, but you'll have to be patient, since it's on it's way really soon! It's great to help out a masochist

You mean Deus Ex? It sold really well, about 1.1 million copies in 2000 (i.e. when games were much less expensive to develop).Hashi wrote:Trolls exist in all forms, even on forums for a mod for a game that didn't really sell all that well

I find that hard to believe. In fact, I don't think any sales figures for the game were ever released.gamer0004 wrote:1.1 million copies in 2000

Wrong, Squeenix released the lifetime sales figures of Eidos' franchises when they bought 'em:

The individual numbers are floating around the Internet, but I'm too lazy to track them down, you'll have to make do with Videogamer.com's summary.

Found them here: http://www.square-enix.com/eng/news/2009/
Check the strategy meeting of April 22nd. It is a PDF file, on page 16 it is said that DX sold just over 1 million copies. However, it is not clear that this is solelz for the year 2000, it seems to me like a lifetime sales record.

one million people know about Deus Ex. Awesome
Re: I'm so gonna miss this board when the mod is done...
It almost certainly refers to sales as of that date, so my point still stands.EER wrote:Found them here: http://www.square-enix.com/eng/news/2009/

The fact that Final Fantasy still sells so well is depressing.

Even the CGI isn't all that impressive anymore. These games have become mostly glorified visual novels. Badly written ones at that.Hashi wrote:its all about the CGIencinodude wrote:The fact that Final Fantasy still sells so well is depressing.

In my opinion, After Final Fantasy VI for Snes, the only one that really excelled was Final Fantasy VII, best in the series by far.encinodude wrote:Even the CGI isn't all that impressive anymore. The last I played (not to the end because I couldn't stand it anymore) was the overhyped Final Fantasy XII (I reviewed it here: http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/rpg/finalfa ... 3Breview10.
