Why won't FOV settings stick after installing HDTP?

Regardless of whatever values I set for DesiredFOV and DefaultFOV in User.ini, they keep resetting themselves to 91.0 each time I start DeusEx.exe or DXLoader .exe . Why is that? I want the correct FOV for 16:9 1080p monitor, which is 82.5.

Are you running Deus Ex out of \Program Files?

I think 90 is better for 16:9. Anyway if you are running from C:\DeusEx or similar the game may simply not have permission to write to the files, does changing any other settings/saving work?
