Adjusting the brightness doesn't "stick"?
Hiyo
Own Deus Ex through steam, downloaded the executable, basically everything runs fine but...
Game's a bit too dark for my taste. I go to adjust the brightness (up) and it seems to be affected in the menu screen briefly, but then it seems to reset. And no matter where I leave the brightness at, in game it's always the same, dark story.
Any advice?

It's too dark for me too. I think it's the gamma you've got to adjust not the brightness in Deus Ex.monolith94 wrote:Hiyo

I often see mine resetting when I tab out and back in. If you're running in windowed or have some funny business going on, that might be the reason. I don't know how to fix it though

Are you using Kentie's launcher?
Also, what renderer are you using? Direct3D/OpenGL/DirectX9/DirectX10?

The real trouble with reality is that there's no background music.

TNM doesn't ship with Kentie's so I'd guess that's a no.

Wasn't sure if they meant Deus Ex or TNM.
I only asked because if they aren't, I suggest they do!

I've got a similar problem to this, and I can't change resolution. There is simply no number in the 'Screen Resolution' box and clicking on the button to change it does nothing. As for brightness, when I load the game it is right for about half a second, but then whenever I go to the settings and change it the brightness reverts to dark within a fraction of a second.
Oddly enough my DX has a different brightness problem (it simply won't adjust at all) but no screen resolution problem. I've tried using Direct3D and OpenGL but with no joy.

OK, using the Kentie launcher has fixed the screen resolution, and changed the brightness problem. Now the brightness won't change at all, instead of changing and reverting.
Also, the music is gone in the menu. And even if I set the data directories to TNM it loads the TNM menu and then the DX game.
Really really confused now.

Re: Adjusting the brightness doesn't "stick"?
You could try to disable auto update in steam and apply the lastest official (non steam) patch and try if it works (steam version might not be binary compatible).
However the launcher should have no influence on the brightness. Are you playing in windowed mode or fullscreen? Windowed mode doesn't seem to respect brightness for me.
/edit
Adjusting brightness in vanilla steam dx works, also works with a custom launcher. Are you using 3rd party renderer?
/edit2
Are you sure your video driver settings have no override for brightness activated?

I'm playing full screen. Not sure how to check the things you are talking about but more than willing to try. Wonder if this is a Windows8 issue because it worked fine on my old laptop.
As for renderer, have tried OpenGL, Direct3D, and even Software Renderer.
Am happy to uninstall everything and start from scratch.

Maybe some options in windows control panel/nvidia settings or ati settings whatever, etc.Quincel wrote:I'm playing full screen. Not sure how to check the things you are talking about but more than willing to try. Wonder if this is a Windows8 issue because it worked fine on my old laptop.
Re: Adjusting the brightness doesn't "stick"?
Oh man, I'm way out of my depth. I've looked for stuff like that, and either found nothing or stuff that is hugely technical and so on.
Re: Adjusting the brightness doesn't "stick"?
Aaaah, OK.
I'm running Flux (https://justgetflux.com/), and even when it is on 'Disable for an hour' it over-rides the brightness setting.
Apologies for that, with OpenGL it works fine now.

Also, the thing about you getting no music and the original game when you launch, that's cause you are not launching from the TNM shortcut, you can't just tick the TNM boxes in Kentie's launcher as the mod requires a lot of other configurations things besides the data directories. If you launch from the shortcut it loads the correct ini files and thus it will work.

Many thanks, will do this in future.bjorn98009_91 wrote:Also, the thing about you getting no music and the original game when you launch, that's cause you are not launching from the TNM shortcut, you can't just tick the TNM boxes in Kentie's launcher as the mod requires a lot of other configurations things besides the data directories.
