ModDB v4
It's pretty good. I'm surprised on how much I influenced the final product, example: the multiplatform stuff some of it was my idea with the help of dragon lord's input. The new classic theme, I designed the colour scheme to begin with and it looks like Intense liked it.
I'm somewhat pleased with the design, the interface for editing still sucks though but I can live with it. The bugs are really terrible at the moment. But yeah I see the site has a heap of potential, it works great and I can't wait to see what I can do with it.
What's everyone else think?

Hm, I kinda like it... Reminds me very much of the old abandonia.com though. They've changed their layout a bit now. Looks worse but less cluttered and with a better useability. I don't visit them very often.

I'm going to second this. I liked the old layout far more. I don't think there should be a "PC/Xbox 360/PS3" thing at the top, but just have mods listed as either and then have a filter somewhere else if you only want to view certain consoles. There's hardly any notable modifications for any of the others (except maybe the PSP or DS, but then they missed the GP2X which is better than both).EER wrote:Can't say I like it, the layout has been cluttered beyond recognition.

What mods are there for consoles, anyway? O_o Besides hardware mods for piracy and region bypassing, I mean. I can't think of any console games at all that have any sort of modding interface, besides UT3's PS3 version, and in that case there's it's just the PS3 users can use the PC-made mods, making an extra interface on the site useless.
I've seen Halo2 mods for the 360, but I don't know how they do it. But the PS3 modding thing isn't being done anymore due to compatability issues.Jetsetlemming wrote:What mods are there for consoles, anyway? You guys realize you can disable the tabs right?
meanwhile I see big potential in the PS3 and Mobile areas on account they can use java straight out of the box. But yeah we already established in the forums that only UT3 can go across all platforms. Which makes us wonder why the fuck did ModDB do this if only one developer supports it. I understand the idea behind the consoles though (such as SNES, NES, Gameboy as you can make homebrew games for these) but next gen is a bit weird atm. I was kinda hoping Portal was going to be multiplatform moddable, but apparently its not.
However the main points about multiplatform games is that Mac and Linux are now growing in support as a gaming platform and I think ModDB has to acknowledge that. But yeah I'll admit they did go a bit nutz

There's just this one thing with disabling the tabs, you can not disable ALL of them. There has to be at least one. So now I have only the PC tab ... OK. WHY is there a tab at all?
I am against gaming on mobile phones, it's just wrong. PS3... well it's nice that it has 'potential', but the scarce supply of mods does not justify any mention whatsoever of the machine. I would support two tabs: "PC" and "Other". Mac and Linux are a joke (gaming wise).

EER, you are heavily misinformed . Mobile gaming is getting better and better, prepare to be shocked as I release games for that platform . You should play some, Sonic is a great mobile game. I'll admit the technology needs some work though.
Linux and Mac have improved quite a bit in the last year alone, Macs now support a lot of graphics heavy games such as BF2142 and UT3. So you couldn't be any further from the truth. And don't say they run bad because Macs have the latest Radeon HD cards in them.

I'm not saying mobile gaming is impossible, I'm saying it is just plain wrong. If I wanted to play games on my mobile, I would have bought a Nintendo DS.
Linux and mac might have improved, but still, there are virtually no games, which make it no viable gaming platform. The (mainstream) games that ARE there, are ports from PC versions, coming out a year later than on the PC.
To illustrate, I'll take the frontpage of "inside mac games" (http://www.insidemacgames.com/)
Chicago 1930 - Looks like original content, but the reviewer says it sucks.
Monopoly Here & Now - I'm not even going to say something about this.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008 - It's there on PC as well.
GHOST Hunters: Haunting of Majesty Manor - It's there for PC as well.
Battlefield 2142 - Been there.
Need for Speed: Carbon - Done that.
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King - Bought the t-shirt.
Fable: The Lost Chapters - This one isn't even CLOSE to the original release date.
FizzPack Collector's Edition - My mom is waiting for this.
Mac Poker Rooms - I get that in my e-mail every day (online casino).
So that's a line up I wouldn't buy a mac for, as there is NO original content that looks remotely interesting.

Mac gaming by all acounts is rubbish, and is so heavily mocked for good reason. Macs can be powerful, yes, if you're willing to pay for the overpriced rubbish - but that doesn't make them viable gaming machines unless you're running Windows.
And EER is completely right. An other tab would be completely acceptable - but then, the tabs are just plain annoying in the first place. If I'm just looking at PC games I've got the PC tab constantly in the way.
