Re: New Vision 2.0 - Deus Ex, AI, and you

It's definitely a subjective difference between the two, so I'll leave both available, unlike New Vision 1.0 which is condemned to the trash heap of history (maybe there's a copy somewhere, who knows). Personally I thought 1.5 was the best direction I could take a re-texture project by re-imagining ...

Re: New Vision 2.0 - Deus Ex, AI, and you

Oh, neat - I didn't know there was a subreddit dedicated to this kind of thing. I stumbled upon Gigapixel months ago by accident and only recently saw people experimenting with ESRGAN for game textures. The results definitely vary a lot based on the model; most models (at least, the example ESRGAN a...

Re: New Vision 2.0 - Deus Ex, AI, and you

It's mostly a case of finding the right process; I've found that up-scaling the image with the usual pink mask colour and then using Photoshop's Select and Mask tool (with colour decontamination) is a fairly efficient way of doing it. It's not automatic, but it is quite fast. I doubt this technique ...

Re: New Vision 2.0 - Deus Ex, AI, and you

Pretty much anything with text scales quite poorly, due to how low-res and blurry the originals were. So there's a bunch of signs like the UNATCO nameplates that look a bit rubbish, and could probably do with a manual remake. I've already manually recreated some of the more basic text signs (e.g. on...

Re: New Vision 2.0 - Deus Ex, AI, and you

Even with the mechs, the AI seems to pick up on the detail fairly well because the original textures are comprehensible. It only struggles when the original image is vague or really low resolution, which is the case for 50% of the environment textures. It doesn't help that Deus Ex has a really 'shin...

Re: New Vision 2.0 - Deus Ex, AI, and you

I think it should be possible to mix and match; I personally wouldn't mix and match New Vision 1.5 and these textures, though, since they are vastly different styles and there is no way you could isolate a certain area of the game (e.g. have a grungy New York, but not UNATCO). Hong Kong is probably ...

New Vision 2.0 - Deus Ex, AI, and you

Chances are some of you have heard of the hot new emulation trend involving AI upscalers. Rather than using a basic algorithm like bicubic sampling, this uses a trained AI model to estimate what detail is and how best to scale it up to a higher resolution. This is mostly intended for photos, but it'...

Re: Questions about the universe

I can't confirm or deny that, but I do know that the Higgs Boson hasn't actually been proven to exist yet. Nor has the Big Bang been proven to have happened. God made everything didn't you know. Ignorant fools, you will burn in hell for not believing. I'm joking obviously. ;) Well, no, you're partl...

Re: Portable DX Install?

By default, Deus Ex saves to the 'saves' folder within the Deus Ex folder. With Kentie's launcher however, the program itself saves to the 'Documents' folder. From my suggestion, he added a way to stop that. Attention: As noted, this executable stores saves and configuration files in 'My Documents'...

Re: It's done.

The SDK is purely an SDK and requires the full version.

And no, I have no plans to cut up the download. I think there's a torrent on The Pirate Bay if you're worried about that.

Re: Rumour: Disney Is Closing Warren Spector’s Junction Poin

Long games have their place but not every game can or should be like that. You don't get a tight narrative in a game like Skyrim or Fallout because it would be practically impossible. I'm glad Deus Ex was long, because I love it, but in terms of a 'sweet spot' I think HR hit it. I show 21 hours play...

Re: Question

UDK would be the best engine, since Deus Ex is predominantly closed/interior environments (which rules out CryEngine). And it would probably fit on a dual layer DVD, as most games do, so about 7-8GB.

Re: How's Life?

Can't complain (although I do) about my personal situation - living with my parents right now but I technically have enough money to buy a house, and I'm looking at buying a new car. Despite my job being very well paid for what little work I have to do, I desperately want to move positions but I'm n...

Deus ex costed 5.5M. Here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=3JK3uWPtbv4#t=5816s He can rise that much money with kickstarter easily. Not really - you've got over 10 years worth of inflation to add to that (more like 7.5m), as well as the fact you cannot make a game like Deus...

Re: A play. In which Mud is Flung, and Mothers are Insulted.

Man, I know I didn't help by being subtley provocative (it's a hobby) but CP - what the hell? It's interesting, I think, how all internet arguments follow the same pattern: there's the initial point of contention between two or more parties and an argument ensues. It then quickly becomes an argument...
