New Vision Help

Post by froggygdude »

How do I get New Vision to work with HDTP? I've been working on this all day, and I've exhausted every resource possible (including these forums), so I figured I'd ask. Any help, anyone?

I don't quite understand what you are asking. Did you replace the normal texture files with those in the New Vision archive and insert the new opengl.dll in the system folder?

I replaced the textures in the DeusEx\Textures, and placed the opengl in DeusEx\System. As an experiment, I tried doing the same thing to HDTP's file equivalents, but that didn't work.

HDTP mostly uses the same texture files as Deus Ex, so if you just install New Vision and HDTP as both mods describe (you've already nailed NV, all you have to do for HDTP is run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions), you should be able to run HDTP by using the provided desktop shortcut, and it will automatically use the New Vision textures.

Also if you go into DeusEx.ini here is the set of settings I currently use. Just paste this over the OpenGL section that is there already. Any further tweaking should be done in the in game preferences section.

I still get jaggies, but I am fairly certain that my hardware does not support AA. Something else you may want to change is I have it set to Precache which could not work so well depending on hardware (seems to be fine on an Intel 915GML with 128mb max system memory available for video)

And a note is if the thing fails to work with these settings revert back to normal and I can resend, as I am using a different version of the renderer with some new toys (pixel lighting)

I installed HDTP about a year ago, so wouldn't I have already done that? I don't think HDTP has any updates, does it?

If it's in the Deus Ex ini file, won't it affect Deus Ex, and not HDTP? That's the trouble I think I'm having; NV is set to work with and works fine with otherwise-vanilla Deus Ex, but not with HDTP.

Yeah just make sure you launch HDTP with the shortcut it placed on your desktop.

When I launch it, it doesn't give me the NV textures.

Are you sure? I mean you're sure you just don't notice the difference? It can be hard to tell if you're not comparing side-to-side, since they've been kept so close to their original aesthetics.

Do you only have one Deus Ex install?

I actually did a comparison of the Airfield bathroom (that's where I was, and noticed the biggest difference). In NV-working Deus Ex, huge difference. In HDTP, absolutely no difference.

Oh uh could you tell me what the GameRenderDevice line in your HDTP.ini says? It should probably say "GameRenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice" (no quotes).

GameRenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice

It looks like you've got an extra "9" in your render device. Is that my problem?

Yeah I think so - what does that same line in your DeusEx.ini say? Copy that over and it should work (*fingers crossed*).

That worked! Thanks! Also, TNM was awesome :D

Edit: Found A Perfect Circle's Thirteenth Step album in Jackie's locker. Glad to see one of the best bands ever in the best mod ever
