Finding what textures are used in a map...

Post by DaveW »

Does anyone here know how I could find out what texture is used on a specific face in a map? I'm trying to finish off a screenshot but there's 2 major textures that aren't done, but I can't find them in the texture packages...

Couple of suggestions:

1) Alt + right-click on the texture and then right-click anywhere else to see the name of the texture at the bottom of the pop-up menu.

2) If you open the map right after opening UEd, only the textures used in the level will be loaded into the texture browser, making it easier to find the one you're looking for (and if you do as I suggested above, the texture will be highlighted in the texture browser so it's easier to spot).

3) Ask and you shall receive (help).

Cheers Jonas. Found the texture. A concrete texture in NYCBar...in the MJ12 lab.

It's the only one in the Concrete category.

By the way Jonas, where didn't I include a question mark in my post? I did ask...

What I meant is if you find the name of the texture you can ask about it on the forums and we'll help you find it.

Ah right, I see. Problem with Deus Ex is that there's a hell of a lot of duplicates or slight recolours. With a concrete texture I doubt there'd be much luck.

duplicates are good right?

Post by eternalightwithin »

So you have less to do when you find a duplicate in another utx file.
Unless you wanted to change it to fit the atmosphere/locale that it is being reused in.

What are you working on this week?

Well I'm thinking of finishing some areas so we can do a proper media release. I've already got a finished shot of the MJ12 hospital part under UNATCO, and I'll probably finish some textures in the Supertanker package and take some screenshots of that.

Dave: in UED2, if you right click on any given geometric face, and select surface properties, the box that appears tells you both the utx it's in and also the texture group, like:

We've got some excelent stuff in NYC bar, but I've specifically said to Snipa not to show anything yet until we get the whole thing done, we'll see what happens in the coming weeks if I can finnish all of the textures in that UTX.

I didn't know that. I wish UEd1 had that functionality.
