The ridiculously big datacube

Post by Daggsy »

Well, having played right through once, I'd like to say well done. The mod's got pretty much everything that made Deus Ex great, with a LOT more hidden junk. I mean, on the first run, I only found 5 of those damn eggs and didn't find my beloved regen aug at all. I never realised how much I rely on that thing.

Second play through, I've found the thing downtown (the invisible sammich cat screen and the ridiculously big datacube). Don't want to go into too much detail, just want to know... what the hell is it?
Ignore anything I just said, I got killed by a foldaway counter in a Downtown coffee shop.

Well I'm not a programmer but it appears to be code from the mod. Specifically code related to the player (Trestkon) Although there appear to be easter egg and cheat related code also.
The easter egg and cheat code looks like stuff you could toggle through the console although I haven't tried.

Further the dialog from the Narcissus Entity suggests that the datacube is representative of Trestkon. Everything with the Narcissus Entity seems to break the fourth wall. :P
As well if you shoot the datacube in a hilarious twist it hurts you also and another dialog from the Narcissus Entity is triggered.

It's all the code from our player class.

Great job with that secret by the way. I thought it was cleaver and I laughed out loud when I realized shooting the player code hurt yourself.

It's in the DownTown area.
From AgentSmithereens:
"Find the trash bag area / ammo cache guarded by the spider bot near the Firewall bloke who sends you on the Noobz mission (not the exact place, just the general area). Then walk on the edge of the wall to climb over the blocked tunnel behind the PDX military bot, turn left and get ready for your mind to warp,"

Welp, time for me to take a subway back to downtown. Why would you shoot a datacube though? How did you discover this behavior?

Well it started with me shooting the lolcat and then it just snowballed into a full on barrage of the general area.

Well, I gave attacking it a go as you suggested. Dragon's tooth sword? Not recommended.

I killed myself with that datacube several times during the beta just for shits and giggles.

How in fuck could you have known someone would damage the datacube?

Last time I heard, we'd had over 3000 downloads. We're aiming for 10k lifetime but it's likely we'll get higher than that.

Even assuming not all of them play the mod, a bunch of them will find the datacube, and somebody will damage it.

Am I the only one who thinks putting a picture of a lolcat behind it drastically increases the chance of it getting damaged? :P
