UED2

A refuge for those migrating from the fallen DXEditing.com and a place for general discussion relating to Deus Ex editing (coding, mapping, etc).

UED2

Post by nerdenstein »

Hey Guys Sorry this is a stupid question but,
Anyone know where to get a copy of the Deus Ex Version Of UnRealEd 2?
I have heard this is a better version than the one included in the SDK and I need it for mapping with the Hardcore DX mod. :/
To modify the maps correctly (especially when you want to rebuild the paths) you'll need UED2 which was originally developed for UT and then ported to use with Deus Ex. The UED which ships with Deus Ex is unable to build paths with inventory spots. And those inventory spots are required by bots navigation code.

Anyone have Andrivaskia Veronkia's hack of UED2? I had it, its much better than version, she was working on it and posted in on DXE before it went and it was much better as it had more brushes, you could see and use meshes, it preloaded all textures and U files when it started so you don't have to open any except your custom ones and the viewport was better as you could see your brushes on texture or lighting view when you clicked a brush. Also you could play your map from a command on the editor.

Obviously you haven't tried it? Difference is huge, in a positive way of course. It's much more reliable, it has better tools and the rebuild is better too I think. Veronika shared this "Unreal Ed 2 Editing pack" with us sometime ago in DXEditing, when it was still up. I've been using the editing pack ever since then. Although, before this one came out I used the UED2 + Veronika's patch to view models.

I took a few shots:

In this picture you can see the new 'tools' + you can see the models.

Some more tools, also notice the 'donut' looking brush on the textured view.

Sadly, the downloads went down. But I uploaded the package + the fix for it to my ftp. I hope it's ok for Venorika for me linking these packs?

Deus Ex Editing Pack 1.8

Plus the fix for this package which you need.

Fix for the pack

If you map for Deus Ex, you should really consider using this package!

This version looks soo much better than the SDK.. :o
Do you have to have the SDK installed to run this or what?
I suppose you still need the SDK for ConEdit Though.. :/
What ever.. I got a free day tomorrow i'll try this thing out.

Thanks For This :)

EDIT: This Is Awesome :O
It comes with everything in the SDK And More.
Both versions Of UnrealED and Conedit and someother stuff to play with :D

This looks GREAT. UEd2 from this package works fine, and loads normal DX maps fine. How do I use my own packages, however, since I have a lot of custom content.

EDIT: Solved! It turns out I didn't need to recompile my package. I have a custom playerclass, which depends on DeusExML. For some reason, the version of DeusEx.u which comes with UED2 doesn't work with DeusExML. I took some lines of out DeusExML, recompiled it, and now both it and my package seem to work.

So what link do I download exactly? And there are no complications? It's just a better version of the editor?

I still prefere to do most of the mapping using UED1 but UED2 has its uses.
It sets up mapnodes automatically though you have to check them after cause it sometimes does them a little weird and in general, when you set up paths between path nodes it handles stuff better.

I would get this DXEditingPack though as it comes with the SDK included and loads of other tools.
You get both map editors in it so you can mix and match between the two and see which works better for what you need it to do.

pathing is actually the one thing you shouldn't use ued2 for, ironically. The default settings for pathnodes (acceptable distance to next node, tolerance for height above floor, etc) in ued2 are not entirely compatible with the version of unreal that DX runs on: your mileage may vary (and indeed I rarely have problems, but then my maps are shit anyway), but you can get situations where pawns are unable to navigate the path network if it's been built in ued2.

But for everything else except perhaps adding custom movers, ued2 is superior (and the fucking vertex editing mode! OMFG I love that)

OK, I'm sold. Now, I'm gonna look like a charity case for a moment: I'm a little confused by all these links and this "fix" package etc. Could someone just throw me the links I need so that I don't mess anything up?

I had to abort the install. I'm getting the following error:

"C:\windows\system32\stdole2.tlb

Unable to register the type library: RegisterTypeLib failed; code 0x8002801C.
Error accessing the OLE registry."
