Deus Ex Runs WAY too fast in windowed mode

Post by shadowblade34 »

As you probably already know, deus ex has its problems in windowed mode. I have managed to fix the brightness issue, but the game runs too fast when in windowed mode. I watch the intro and most of the speaking is cut of. Help please? I tried that fix from kentie.net, but it says I have an invald Deus Ex folder, I downloaded a NoCD crack so I dont have to put the CD in every time. Maybe that is the problem. Any help?

Have you tried reducing the processor affinity to 1? That's usually what causes speed problems.

Also, you really shouldn't need a noCD crack for dx: a single line in the .ini will make it CD-independent.

The easiest way is to start the game, open the activity manager (by press CTRL+ALT+DEL), I apologize if that's not what it is called in English, I have no clue. Anyway, then right click the Deus Ex activity in the "Program" tab and select "Go to process" then right click the selcted process(should be called deusex.exe) and select the bottom option.

That is, if you have XP, I have no idea how to do it on Vista/W7.

Also you could overwrite your DeusEx.exe with your TNM.exe (you have TNM right? ;)), that should fix it.

Sorry Jaedar, the processor affinity thing did not work. And I am sorry Jonas, I never got around to downloading TNM :oops: . Another thing is that even if I had TNM, if it requires admin permission to install, I dotn have the admin password, and my brother who does would never have installed it if it needs installing.

It does need admin access.

But uh... how much do you like your brother?

Thanks guys, is there any way to fix the "Invalid Deus Ex folder" problem on the kentie fix?

The solution is simple! Download the Enhanced OpenGL (http://www.cwdohnal.com/utglr/), and use it. You need to change one option in the renderer (in the DeusEx.ini): set the SwapInterval to -1

Code: Select all

[OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice]
Translucency=True
VolumetricLighting=True
ShinySurfaces=True
Coronas=True
HighDetailActors=True
DetailTextures=True
TruFormMinVertices=0
TruFormTessellation=3
UseTruForm=false
ZRangeHack=False
AAFilterHint=0
NumAASamples=6
UseAA=false
RequestHighResolutionZ=True
MaskedTextureHack=False
FrameRateLimit=0
SwapInterval=-1 << --- Like this
...........
Save the file and try. You can check the result by typing STAT FPS in the console. If the FPS is normal (about 60-85 FPS), everything is OK. But if you'll change SwapInterval to 0, FPS will grow to 200-600 FPS, and thus game will run too fast.

Here's a solution! I was looking over the DX Steam Forums, and found this in particular. Even if you're not a Steam user, it seems to work. ( Well, for me ). Backup your old DeusEx.exe and the other file, then install this, rename it from CustomDeusEx to DeusEx. This should solve the problem. Oh yeah, the link is here. FIE IT!! :

P.S : I'm sure someone "stole" the title from Oi. "Windows 7 RC, Deus Ex, and You " lolwut.
