Or, if you don't want to use Shifter, just open the map in the SDK and re-add it to the level information.
Mr. Hassat, could you tell me how to that?
I mean exactly?
:D

Easy.

Open the map (08_NYC_Street), then go to Options- Level Properties, and under the Audio tab replace the song "none".
To do that in the top right select "music" instead of actors, load up the song you want (NYCStreet2_Music) then select Song again and use the "use" button.
Save the map. Done.

You know, did you try just removing the whole CD path line in the .ini, making a CD-rom no longer required?
Yes, nothing I tried actually worked. When I tried that still asked me for the CD, really can't say what caused the problem, but I could not actually play Deus Ex for ages and gave up modding for ages because of it.
Way to contradict yourself within the same post.
PS2's were better than PC's at the time, but they couldn't render that big maps because it really couldn't triump PC's of that time...
Really? I had a Pentium III 800Mhz, 512MB RAM, Geforce FX graphics (128MB Graphics) card, DVD ROM, 15GB HD with Windows 98 and the good ol 56k dialup modem, but I don't know how good this is compared to a PS2. (The hard drive is lot less in capacity n my old machine)

I played DX in 2000 on a PII-300 (not sure about the rest of the stuff, it's been 10 years) at full detail at 1024x786.

I don't think P3's where even available back then, but according to the specs fantsu posted PC's where already more powerful.

Mine was the same. Are you using the GOTY Edition because after i install then the Patch over it (Yes i know GOTY is the latest patch but still) it worked fine without the CD then.
The real trouble with reality is that there's no background music.

I use GOTY (Just a disk, not from steam or anything) and can remove the line and play without disc without installing a patch or anything... :-k

Ohh Thats Odd.
Okay The Only other think I can think of..
Morpheus.. Your Copy Of DX.. Is It Sold Out Software Or PCGamer? I know the GOTY was released under Sold Out because thats what my CD copy is. If i do a fresh install and take out the CDPath line in the .ini file it still asks me for the CD. I just patch it and then its sorted :)
Other than that reason i think its sorta pointless patching the GOTY Ed i guess

Well, I got the "premier collection" disk. So that's another possible "version".

Sold Out is GOTY. I have it somewhere, but I just installed from a pirated copy now - sets up the CD drive as a folder on my hard drive automatically so I don't get CD issues.
