Sold Out versions don't work with the CDPath trick, if I recall correctly you have to install the v1.112fm patch and then it will work.
I gave up with my Sold Out copy so I ended up just pirating a copy of the game to install, and the directory I install from defaults as the CD directory - so it works quite nicely.
