's what I'm here for. We're planning to monkey with Deusex.u ANYWAY, so why not?

While I'm on the subject, it would probably help if we kept multiskins[2] as the muzzleflash texture (as it is for all current dx weapon meshes), which I think should be material slot 3 if you had it in 3ds max..though to be honest, I've never really worked out quite how 3ds2de decides which material to assign to which multiskin. I bet Phas knows, though.

Anyway, yeah: if you can manage to get the muzzleflash as multiskins[2] that's double awesome, but at the end of the day, I can sort everything out with code anyway, so yay!

Just keep the total number of different materials/textures below 9, since DX can only cope with 8 multiskins. The bugger..

No wait, better idea. Add both to the default mesh, but slightly separate them from the rest of the mesh, and assign them different materials, so we can just mask them out when 'not added'.

That would be AWESOME.
Rather than masking them, you could make them seperate models. Model the weapon, fully modded, and animate it. Delete the polies for the mods, and save that alone. Do the same with each mod isolated by itself. Now you have everything seperate, but still positioned correctly relative to everything else, and animating correctly. Then, in RenderOverlays(), you first render then gun, then, if a scope mod's on, change the mesh to the scope one, call DrawActor() again, then do the same for all the other mods.

True. I'm not sure if it'd end up being more work that way, though, since you'd potentially end up with eight different meshes required for some weapons (actually just the pistol, I think, most others would be four). More if anyone can be bothered to somehow model accuracy/range/clip/whatever mods...

And of all the weapons, I think only the DTS comes close to using all the multiskins: the rest have stacks of slots to spare.

Anyway, I'm far from a modeller myself, so do whatever's easiest for you modelling folks, to be honest.

@ Ajare - The Poly count is roughly 500-600. And I've modelled a hand for the weapons: http://img254.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hand16gz.jpg

:D
Hand isn't proportional but nobody who plays will notice! It will be in a fist anyways ;)

What program(s) you using btw?

The hands should be proportional, as I had a reference.
They're not perfect but I'll take a look.

And I use 3DS MAX.

You've got me started now. :P

Oh Cinema is an exellent programme, extremely user friendly, very RARELY crashes, it will crash perhaps once a month if that. The renderer is top notch and the poly tools are supreme, the only problem in my opinion is there aren't any plugins to export for games but that's the game developers fault not cinemas... Oh and character rigging needs a little work but that's it.
