So, on reflection, unless someone presents me with a good idea that cannot survive the inclusion of a talking cat, the talking cat would appear to be in.

You should have a sentient pen in the book.

I think all my plot ideas have been done before.
A group of people, say seven, have each received a train ticket to some exotic location, all expences paid. They are promised a certain amount more for completing the journey.
Their lives have somehow always been inter-related with only their vaguest perception of this fact. Who is the mysterious benefactor? Why has he/she even put the wheels in motion? What connects the characters together?

Like I said I think it's been done, but it's not a talking cat. lol.

THE Chris the Cynic, writing a novel?! Do it!

In my time writing rather crappy/mediocre short stories at school I have run out of ideas, a lot, usually chatting with friends in a random discussion with no defined or discernible topic helps, as does writing down whatever idea comes to mind at any given time, & reading other good stories helps a lot as well.

Good luck, and, if I can spare time between fanfiction, Serious Sam HD, homework, and sleeping I will be glad to read it when you are done. ^_^

No, just a chris the cynic. Haven't you heard I come in six packs?

And for anyone who doesn't get the reference, shame on you.

ZAPHOD: Listen three-eyes, don't try to out weird me, I get stranger things than you free with my breakfast cereal!
RECEPTIONIST: Well, just who do you think you are, honey? Zaphod Beeblebrox or something?
ZAPHOD: Yeah, count the heads.
RECEPTIONIST: Well I'm sorry sir but - er - what did you say?
ZAPHOD: Oh, photons!
RECEPTIONIST: You are Zaphod Beeblebrox?
ZAPHOD:Yeah but don't shout it or they'll all want one
RECEPTIONIST: The Zaphod Beeblebrox?
ZAPHOD: No, just a Zaphod Beeblebrox, didn't you hear I come in six-packs?
RECEPTIONIST: But sir, I umm, it was on the sub-ether radio this morning, er… it… er…said you were dead.
ZAPHOD: Yeah that's right, I just haven't stopped moving yet. Now where do I find Zarniwoop?

As for Chris the Cynic writing a novel, theoretically I've been writing one since November 2003. It's just been on hold for years.

[Added:] A note to any of you who might at some point be tasked with upgrading a forum. Doing so in a way that fucks over the formatting on all of the old posts is a bad idea. If you must change things so that the old formatting no longer works at least be enough of a non-ass to create a program that will change the old formatting to the new formatting or something.

Also, only assholes delete archives. If you are an asshole stop short of being a total asshole by warning people that you're going to do it well ahead of time.

Clearly you need to listen to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy original radio series. That was from the first episode of the second season.

Don't worry Kee, looks as though I'll be joining you in the shame file. I never did see the early Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy episodes and I certainly didn't know there was a radio series. The world didn't stop turning because of this lack of knowledge however. :P

I only ever saw most of the recent Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which, whilst superb, is most likely still inferior to the books I will have to read at some point.

Is ears all it takes to be considered a furries topic? Seriously? Ears. So every time someone brings up Midas that makes it a furies topic? By extension that would mean any time someone brings up Apollo the topic is about furries since he was the one who gave Midas those ears.

The radio series came first. There were two seasons of six episodes each.

The first book was based episodes 1-4.
The second book was based on episodes 7,8,9,10,11,12,5 and 6 in that order.
The third was entirely original.
As was the fourth, the fifth, and the short story.

At some point a TV series was made.

And a game.

Then a movie.

Also in there somewhere, after the Douglas Adams written history I used as a rough guide for this post was completed, someone returned to the radio series basing them on books 3, 4 and 5. I have not listened to these, in part because it apparently uses a massive reality altering reset button to make it so the radio series can follow the books in spite of fairly large differences between the two.

Is there any place/way to legally access the radio shows?

Yeah.

First season and second season on CD. I'm mildly disappointed at the CDs as compared to the cassette version I have (seasons one and two on six tapes) because of some minor changes.

Though, that said, apparently the cassettes were also not identical to the original radio broadcasts.
