Bite my shiny glass
Recently Fred has been working the pinball machine again. One of the problems was getting the glass to shine.
I always thought you couldn't have a shiny and translucent surface, not because they didn't do it in the original game, because they did, on several occasions. The Chinese sword has a translucent and shiny shell... but I thought WE couldn't do it because 3ds2de didn't convert it correctly.
I have tried making shiny translucent spheres before now and they didn't shine like they should have, this is why I assumed it didn't work...
I was wrong... Yesterday Fred and I got the shiny glass to work on the pinball machine and it looks fantastic.
It would seem it depends on the surface type. The spheres do not shine very well but a sheet like glass does.
Anyway, my point is assuming the tests I'm about to do go well? We should be able to have shiny glass in our objects. The flask for instance will look a lot better, anything that needs to shine like a lamp base, polished metal, screens etc can have a shell and shine properly as well. There are quite a few benefits to this.

You do realize how old the DX engine is, right?EER wrote:So glass will have a reflection like the floors of the training facility? Excellent!
Think more of the "reflection" on Jock's helicopter. It's actually a form of environment map, not a true real-time world reflection.

Phas, forgive me for asking, but can you make our bucket shine? I really think our bucket needs to shinePhasmatis wrote:We should be able to have shiny glass in our objects. I'll ask Metche if she will show the pinball video, that's a very good example.EER wrote:And if the HDTP team thinks it's cool enough to show us, you'll show us. At least, I hope soPhasmatis wrote:Then I'll post it in the modelling forum so the HDTP team can have a look...
