Well, perfect roundness doesn't exist.

This is the closest I can make using Milkshape 3D.

Poly count stands at 1984. Cute.

The last one looks good cool (the first one as well, but it isn't as round as the last one!)

Uh, They're both the same model ERR, one just dosen't have texturing.

This version is 160 polys. I can easily up that value with more slices, but I don't really think it would be worth the resources.

Lofa I believe 160 polys is bang on mate. We want to push the engine but not break it because of a couple of beefed up pans lol. I think thats a perfect balance ;).

I'm sure it could be bumped to 300 polys and look better...
Aren't these pans in indoor areas that dont require that much power?
My rig is 3 years old, so don't think I'm asking for a PC killing mod, but I'd like the pan to be as round as possible... ;)

thats all well and good but if you have 2 pans on the stove and then a a handfull of new characters etc etc - well thats what im worried about tbh. We still havent tested this so God only knows what will happen. Its something we'll test after phases 3 and 4 are done because we need tons of models.

Perhaps then, if everything is running flawlessly, it could get beefed up... but I wouldn't say it's a very high priority.

Have a look at the amount of polys the objects in Doom 3 and Halflife 2 use. I think you'll find we are using more polys than they are.

Also, I can't help but think you don't remember what the old frying pan looked like.
Here it is:

Either the second one has more polys. Or I should go to bed before 2 AM.

Oh yeah, it's a huge difference, but it still looks kinda odd. I think it's the lighting in the texture that's highlighting the edges (like the original). Sounds like a job for truform anyway. Looks fine as it is now.

The frying pan is central to the story and must be rounded at all costs. There's a pot in HL2, not sure how they got theirs rounded.

Here is a URL to view a HDTP gallery. It's pretty basic but will allow you to compare old and new models.

Let me know what you all think.

Before you rounded the model, the highlighting on the texture was very nice, but it looks rather bumpy with the new 16-side model. I think it would help tremendously if you had your texture-monkey re-adapt the texture to the UV map

You know, I'm thinking that if the pan can't be completely round, you could just keep the original model and just give it a higher resolution texture...

Both of these look low poly. I say, just keep the original.

The one on the left looks more like a cactus than the original leafy look.

Original looks just as good to me.

They can do whatever they want.
That's just how I feel about what I see.
